Greg, is there a logo image file for APEX? At the APEX site, I can't
find a simple image file. I do see that the stylized "APEX" is used in
the background. I wondered if you have access to an image file for
that.

For the PTX version, we could put that in the upper left, where the
missing image is here:

These are in the external-images folder.

Alex,
I've attached 4 APEX Calc variations; hopefully they are of high enough resolution that it'll work well. And hopefully these are what you are looking for.

In the external-images folder, there are some nice images that aren't APEX specific. One is similar to (or, it is) the favicon I use for the website, but it isn't iconic enough that someone would see it and know that it meant "this page is APEX Calc."

Pick your favorite, if you have one. I think I like the APEX Calc one best, followed by the APEX Calculus. Doubt you want the one with V4.0 on it.

If you were looking for something else, let me know. Or you wanted color.

These are great. I hadn't come back to look in the external images
folder yet, but either "APEX" or "APEX Calc" looks like a good fit.

On second look, I see again the title is there saying "APEX Calculus". So perhaps another logo that says APEX Calc is redundant, and the hyperbolic paraboloid would be better.

Your call.

I think I like the "APEX" as a reference to the "organization" rather
than the specific book.

Alex, since you've got work in progress, do you want to add this change?
That might be better than me making a PR that introduces conflicts.

There is a favicon.ico in the external-images folder as well. Should we
add a line referencing it in the publisher file? (Or in apex.ptx if it's
not yet supported in the publisher file?)

I'm curious on how we make that work -- I thought the favicon file had
to be in the root directory of your webserver for it to work.

I have added the APEX.png file provided by Greg in place of the hyperbolic paraboloid that was there before.
Note that I can also do the following: for the title of the book, I can change
<title>APEX Calculus</title>
to
<title><m>\apex</m> Calculus</title>

which makes use of the fact that we have a LaTeX definition for the APEX logo.
This works fine in HTML. Maybe not EPUB?

The APEX Calculus.png banner would look nice on the title page but the PreTeXt schema doesn't allow for an image anywhere on the title page, as far as I can tell.

One thing we are missing is a book cover. I know that the covers used by Greg in the past were pretty minimalist.
(Essentially the APEX banner on a solid background.)

Any interest in updating that? Maybe Greg could find a nice photo of VMI, we drop that in a border on a solid background, and add the banner at the top?

I've intentionally steered far from the uncanny-valley of cover art (or any graphic) that looks *almost* good. Hence the minimalist covers of the book. I'd prefer to stick with that approach unless something really nice is made.

And while I do love my school, it's best to avoid any imagery connected to VMI. My connection to a military college has weird side-effects that unexpectedly crop up. (Long story short, a colleague and I got quietly dropped from a project in Germany. Took us a month to figure out why. Turns out that post WWII, German universities are *really* shy about aligning with anything military.)

I've been thinking of a new iteration of the minimalist cover though haven't come up with anything great yet.. (First was just a solid color, then a solid color with a blue stripe, then solid color with large, sideways Calculus.) I can try to think harder about this, though.
