Everything syncs fine, except I receive an error only on my AnkiDroid device that "error syncing media"..The only other platform I use is a PC.  I have never had this problem in the year I have been using both devices concurrently; and all of a sudden this happened today.  Perhaps I should delete the local content off of my android (dont know where its stored) and re-sync?

Thank you for reading

was the error that the counts were off, followed by an indication that it would do a full sync the next time?

Charlie,

I'm having the same issue.  I've been using Anki/Ankidroid for about a year on two android devices and Windows without a problem.  Got a new cell phone today, and received this message the first time I tried to download the deck:

"Media sync completed, but the media count doesn't agree with the server. The next media sync will be full to correct any error."

I've tried syncing again, same result.  I've also tried deleting the anki folder from my phone, and then syncing.  That didn't help either.

I'm a relative heavy anki user, and really want to use it frequently on my phone.  I also feel bad about using so much bandwidth from the anki servers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

Same issue, had to move everything to SD card. Something wrong with AD network because sync between computers are fine.

I used to have this problem for quite a long time. My way to deal with it was to disable media sync in preferences, and only enable when I needed something.

I believe what made it go away was by "checking media" on the desktop client and then removing unused media. Right around then, bamn, it started working again, and works for me today. If you do a media check, my guess is you have one or both types of one-way media, references to no longer existing media, or existing media not referenced. I think removing unused media is good enough to address this. Let me know =)

Xiao: unfortunately, my phone doesn't have an SD card, so I can't try that.

Charlie: I did indeed have unused media when I checked on the windows client. Unfortunately, the problem persists even after removing the orphaned images. As a temporary measure, I've disabled media sync as you suggested.

Thanks for your help, everyone. Hopefully I'm able to find a more durable solution...

Same thing here, all in the sudden the sync stopped working, and now it sayus. I've been using AnkiDroid for a while now and it's the first time the syncs fails so much. I tried different things like deleting unused media, checking the DB and such, to no avail. It now constantly fails on my device saying "Error syncing media data."

yeah, see, when my probably went away, I wasn't entirely convinced it was just removing un-used media, so I'm glad to hear about your results -- I think I may have also removed some references to non-existing media that were on some of my cards. What I do know is I didn't used to have this issue, then it popped up, I had it for quite awhile, and then it went away. Did you, by chance, add or remove any media or media references to your collection recently? (maybe a weird question to some, but I rarely change my media state)

I have deployed a possible fix for this to AnkiWeb. The problem is
greatly exacerbated by the fact that AnkiDroid requests all files
again when there's a problem with media - even all the files it
already has. Anyway, please let us know if the problems persist after
another full resync.

Lucky for you.

Full media sync would take a whole day for 800mb. That is if I'm lucky enough not to get disconnected or get any errors.

Damien,

Thanks very much. That fix worked. I've been using Anki/Ankidroid for the past two days without any syncing issues.

Thanks again,
Dave

If the Dev can stop AD from requesting all media files when there is a discrepancy, that would be much better.

I can a carbon copy of the media folder on the SD card, AD will still download everything from scratch.
