Hi Everyone,

New to Ampache and can't wait to try it out, but I have some issues. I installed it on Ubuntu Server 16.04 running LAMP. I installed Ampache by installing the release archive to the /var/www/html folder. The installation went fine (as far as I can tell) and the admin account was created. After logging in, I tried to tweak the settings/options, but when I went to the Options page under "Preferences," nothing shows up in the options.

This is what shows in the log file:

Chad,

I was able to duplicate your problem using lighttpd instead of Apache.
Check the settings for document root in the Apache config file. It
defaults to /var/www/html It might be giving you a problem depending on
how you unpacked/installed the downloaded Ampache file.

I am not familiar with Apache, so I'm not sure how it would affect the
change in URL path you would need to access the Ampache server.

Thanks for replying, Ernest.

I did extract the ampache-3.8.2_all.zip file to the default folder of Apache and installed from there.

I don't know if it's my setup or not. It most likely is ;-)

Chad,

I set up Apache2 (httpd) and unpacked ampache-3.8.2_all.zip in
/var/www/html (Document Root).

I only changed:

<IfModule dir_module>
DirectoryIndex index.php
</IfModule>

in httpd.conf.

I could not duplicate the problem with this setup.

Unless it is a url rewrite problem I have no more ideas.

Sorry.....

Hi Ernie,

I tried setting the directory index to "index.php," but that didn't seem to solve my issue. The weirdest thing regarding this issue: it's only the "Options" section under "Preferences" that doesn't display anything and under "Modules," it won't display "Local Play Modules." Everything else seems to load fine.

I'll keep looking.

To possibly eliminate the httpd (apache) configuration you might try
stopping the apache server and executing:

sudo php -t /var/www/html -S 127.0.0.1:80

from a command line. This provides a very basic http/php server that
can be used for testing. It will also report any problems as it is
executing.

If the php server works, you might try disabling mod_rewrite in apache
or make sure any .htaccess files are renamed to .htaccess.dist to keep
apache from trying to do any url rewriting.

ps: I re-enabled my lighttpd server and could no longer duplicate the
problem (sigh!)

I'm having this same problem running with apache2 in Ubuntu 16.04. I turned off ajax page loading for the server and applied it to all users and the options menu returned. What was very odd, before that if I had PHP display errors the options menu would come back as well. There were no errors that really showed up in any logs, however, until I turned off ajax page loading and got the options menu back. Now the menu is there, but there is no "update preferences" button to save the preferences that get adjusted, and if I go to the url and replace "?tab=options" with "?action=update_preferences" it pops me over to a page telling me that I don't have access to that function (I am the admin account).

I check my logs now, and I am getting the same error as above

/var/www/html/themes/./theme.cfg.php not found.

and it is clearly there. The logs also show

Form  not found in session, rejecting request

from when I try to force the preferences update via url trickery and guess-work.

I'm having this problem too.  Any updates?  Should I try a development version of Ampache or a different version of PHP (using 7.0.10 non-thread safe)?

I would say revert to 5.6.* with 3.8.2 release or 3.8.3 develop. I
think there might be problems with 7.0.* as I could not update the the
database on my 3.8.3 develop with php 7.0.3. I had to revert to 5.6.21
myself. I'm going to have to debug 7.0.*.

Make sure that php-gettext is loaded as it isn't mentioned on the wiki,
but check the wiki to make sure the listed php modules are
installed/loaded. Don't forget to restart Apache after any php modules
are installed.

Enabling php_gettext fixed my problems.  That should probably be mentioned in the wiki.

This does look like an already known problem, fixed in
https://github.com/ampache/ampache/pull/1319 (and some other commits).

This issue should not happen with the latest develop branch.

Does this mean that php_gettext is no longer requires? I'm running on Linux with the stable release and not having any known problems at the moment.

@phyks,

I just tried the latest develop with/without php_gettext and php 7.0.10:
It does work either way.

It' just that some users prefer to stick with release versions.

I think this can be closed.

Got it. So, gettext is enabled by default on Ubuntu 16.04?

Couldn't tell ya, I run Fedora; but enter php -m from a command line to
see if it is loaded/built in. Fedora has a folder at /etc/php.d in
which various modules can be loaded when php starts up. I custom build
php with all modules I need built into php.

Yes, I know this. We should definitely release a new version with
Afterster I think.

There was a bug making gettext required while it is just an optional
dependency.

I'm also having this issue with IIS7 and PHP7.0.12 NTS.

Not exactly sure what to do about it or how I can fix it.  Any ideas?
