Hey guys,

i love Meshroom! Great tool! But i often get into problems when it comes to precise 3d scans. I thought about combining a Line-Laser with my spinning table setup :)
So here comes the question: Will you implement a Line-Laser-Module to Meshroom in close future? Is it hard to implement?

This is how workflow could work:
- Laser is fixed to the camera with certain offset and angle (see laser scanner)
- You are taking a picture with and without laser --> differential image --> line laser filtered out :) --> line laser to 3D Cloud --> picture without laser to texturing-module
- 3D Cloud to MeshFilterer --> 3D Cloud to Texturing Module?

What do you think about this?

Hello Marc,
as far as I know (->LADIO documentation), adding support for externally generated pointclouds (e.g. from Lidar scanner) is on the project to-do list somewhere.
At the moment you could use this setup https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alicevision/Y1mde4F1KmU to work with different image sets for reconstruction and texturing.
This is not only useful for polarized lenses, but can also be used with structured light or image sets with laser lines.
Personally I always wanted to test this out with a grid laser to see if this could improve results.

Hi, since its inception we adopted Reality Capture as a standard tool to process 1TB worth of picture acquisition from on set vfx data.
The algorithm engine on that software allows us to process up to 3000 pictures in less than 1h. But we don't rely on pictures only, LIDAR scan data is the main tool for big spaces and where the LIDAR can’t reach on small spaces photogrammetry is used. Reality Capture enables us to have the best of both worlds in a workflow that is consistent, reliable and highly accurate. Sadly they are moving away from what they currently have, and the question i have is if Meshroom is ready and up to the task to be able to produce this combination of mixed sources in a pass.

Thanks,

I also yearn for this

Hi Ross, nice meeting ya here. Question i have for you is, do you particularly use that workflow as well?

Thanks

We do the reality capture thing. I think I read that lidar data is on the road map for alicevision. You say reality capture are moving away from that workflow?

I am also considering the full recap workflow including photos on top of lidar. We use a blk360 so could be quite neat.
