Albert,
If you're trying to build shared understanding, I would suggest Example
Mapping rather than story estimation. It's a much more direct and
comprehensive way of achieving that, plus it gives you a head start on
acceptance tests.
I've always found that the practice of estimating stories is best for
choosing an appropriate amount of work for the next iteration. And that
you can count stories for that to be close enough.
There are good reasons to estimate, but usually at a higher level than
