Hello IBK:

Good morning sah, or is it afternoon or evening in Tanganyika? I know the Prince of Mushin, Wharfsnake,  is leading the charge on behalf of his principality against the caveman Governor in Lagos. Even proper Yorubas are perplexed about the domestic phobia aka deportation - from Lagos to Anambra - which can incite retaliation because there are  "destitute traders" in Anambra and other South-Eastern states from your Yoruba Southwest origins. This tribal intoxicant, from Cape to Cairo, underscores the backwardness of Africa.

IBK, I have respect for you.  You cannot be a native boy who is allergic in every instance a person of Igbo extraction is concerned. Not even the Honorable no-nonsense Dr. Gloria Johnson will not condone what seems to be an inoculated incivility, which is a clear and present danger to normalized societies. If you were  one the crackpots on the nets, delete would have been my response.

Dear, you did not need to take human psychology 101 to know that gentlemen of Neb's upbringing and  status do not encumber themselves with any form of primitivism to be seen as a man - by playing to galleries. No, they are very comfortable with  healthy self-confidence. You bet, it takes a guy who is morally grounded with socio-emotional intelligence - beyond the obvious intellectual gift -  to express himself in a spirit of sheer fun and gallantry. People with sick minds do not to that; they feel a void when no one is harmed and constant animosities make their day.

IBK, take  a trip through Lighthearted Avenue and liberate your mind-set from the clogs that reduce your better instincts and amplify the darker impulses.  Other clean minds understand that what Neb  wrote was as innocuous as it comes. Why you had to somersault to where you are, spoiling for some gutter festival,  is a sorry episode of a misguided sense of manhood.

You want to fight who? You are tipping the scale to what is beneath you: rottenness. C'mon, I think that is not the sum total of your social awakening. Certainly, you must know that men and women get along on common values, which are not sexual debasements. They collaborate on ideals that leave impacts beyond their own stay on earth.

In projecting gender dichotomies, you need a reminder that civalry is a virtue worn by finer men? Although of medieval coinage, modern societies appreciate the traits. But some African dudes believe belittling women makes them big and swell - and just about anything must be objectified in sexual lewdness.

I was in a meeting with others when I read Neb's mail.  Yep, I was momentarily "caught off guard" before I started laughing because I expected a policy dispute. But that was the whole fun. Someone capable of the unusual and disarmingly so. It  was greeted with merry asides. An American guy laughed, indicating that he did not know African guys can be so "comfortably expressive in that manner, with  good humor in public" - quoting his words. Why? He said he reads mails from African groups and 90% of the exchanges are exercises in crudeness.   There you go, you did not disappoint in that "lower expectation."

Nevertheless, IBK,  I am taken aback that you chose to read and  miscast a  lighthearted exchange using a nefarious mental wavelength. Worse, your exploitation of the tribal angle leaves much to negate. But that would not be a good employ of anyone's time .

Cheer up.

Best and God Bless,
MsJoe

Be careful and watch your steps. I, a Yoruba loves your sorry Igbo head than your fellow Igbo supremacists and I have warned you. The question is will you listen?

We shall see!

The Health & Wealth of the Continental African Community

Hello Community

Cherry Summer to you, your family and friends:

From coast to coast, the Continental African community is buzzing with theme-based Association Conventions,  the graduations, stylistic  picnics and cook outs, the weddings,  and all the dear memories that only summer creates with a spice of  heritage. Experience the  joy with faith and optimism for a thriving community.

The new and emerging  Continental African population in the United States  is rising  more that there is available research to capture the dynamics for public policy outcomes and resource allocation. Nevertheless, few committed individuals have been consistent in spending their own money and providing intangible talents to enable developments. In-roads have been made but the journey is a collaborative task to ensure that the gains are not rolled back and there are coherent strategies to translate  potentials to measurable progress.

Local communities are the rocks upon which progress is built.  The  federal congress is made up of representatives who are  local people from local areas who vote local interests. Therefore, your local community is your spring base. That is why even President Obama is sending numerous mails for residents to  mobilize at local levels for critical issues that effect the nation.

It brings us to ABCD. What is it?  Asset Based Community Development  is a proven approach that creates viable communities. The concept is simple. Think about how the Latino, Asian, Jewish immigrant communities became a force. Today, in different jurisdictions, they  have quality of life services and resources for their respective populations. Do the Continental African populations have these services even when the numbers in the jurisdictions make a clear and compelling  case?  Dear local residents, that is the bottom-line for action.

ABCD considers local assets as the critical and primary building blocks of sustainable community development.  It emphasizes:
1) Building the skills of local residents;
2) Empowering local associations to address community developments as opposed to dependencies;
3)The supportive functions of local institutions in the government  and private sectors, which recognize the need for equity for various populations in the jurisdictions.

Naturally, ABCD draws upon existing community strengths (such as leadership, institutions, individual talents and other social assets) to build stronger, more sustainable community. The results should be evident:  policies and resources  that improve the  health of residents,  economic and educational opportunities,  and socio-cultural life of the community.

The Asian Model for excellence is known.  The Continental African Model can be just as impressive. K12 students have no achievement gap and in every profession Continental Africans are excelling. Oh, a record number went to NFL in 2013 with  Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah making the fifth overall pick in first round draft to Detroit Lions.

In the Washington, Maryland, Virginia Statistical Region (DMV), we have  had three standard-setting ABCD forums in 2013.  You can do same in your jurisdictions.  No  effort is too small. It  grows and adds to change where you live  - if you can plant a seed of support to benefit and uplift the  community.

It is best practice to highlight leaders on the move.  They matter for the bottom-line when the count needs to be up. Hello Serge Oniloude of the Benin Association and Ben Bamba in the Ivory Coast community - both in the DMV.

Around the US,  greetings to Dosso Kassimou leading the African Commission in the City of Newark, New Jersey. A shout out to Mushale in Minnesota for putting together the African Awards slated in the African Heritage Month on Friday September 20, 2013. The Continental African Imagine and Beneficence Award to launch the first Community Health Navigator with the  Continental Health Initiative is on Saturday September 28, 2013 in Maryland.

O yes, September is African Heritage Month and the 50th Anniversary of the African Union, which evolved  from the Organization of African Unity. In the DMV, it will close with the African Union Village. Have fun with the nick names of African states that would be modeled. Download the information and go to Timbucktu to understand that Africa was the center of learning way back in the 13th century.

EducateEngage, Enlighten to promote  the essence, presence and contributions of Continental Africans in the development of your city, county and state in  the US - land of the free and home of brave.

Cheers!
From the ABCD Team

Montgomery and Maryland: Homes of Many First
The Heath and Wealth: Equity Forum
May 14, 2013

Welcome
May 14 Evelyn
Ms Evelyn Joe, organizer and sponsor of the Health and Wealth: Equity  for Africans Forum: May 14, 2013.

Thanks to our co-sponsors: Dr. Georges Awah; Martinsburg Pediatrics;  Chris Leintu; and  Reaching the Nations Ministry.

A multidisciplinary corps of  constituents and  organizations  not only took the lead in identifying  gaps in development; they are ready to match capacity with need for  solutions. It was a partnership dialogue with Montgomery County. The keynoter was the Honorable  Isiah "Ike" Leggett, Montgomery County Executive.

The event was held at the Montgomery County Council Cafeteria. Limited by space the attendance met the goal with an impressive turnout with health care and business leaders in the private sector, including area hospitals and economic developers. Among the formal public sector representatives were: Members of the Office of Minority Health; heads of the African American and Latino Health Initiatives - Mrs Heather Ross and  Ms. Sonia Mora respectively; the  Director of the Office of Community Services  - Mrs Betty Lam;  the Director of Health and Human Services -Mrs. Uma Ahuwalia; the Manager of Business Navigation - Mrs. Judy Stephensonand representatives from  state, national and international interest groups.

The constituents  also extended their appreciation to the engaging  council members:  George Leventhal; Hans Riemer and Congressman Chris Van Hollen whose staffs were present with less than 24 hours notice or no notice.

An array of community groups including the first established community-based organizations: The Ethiopian Community Center and its venerable Director Hermela Kebede; African Women Cancer Awareness Association with Mrs Ify Nwabukwu; Mrs Ndiaye and the Africa Diaspora for Change signified the institutional foundation of the new and emerging Continental African community. The enthusiastic participants appreciated the presence of  Mr. Dan Koroma, the African and Caribbean Liaison  to Mongtomery County Executive.

The media and personalities from WPFW led by its chairman Yves Point de Joureminded  all about the  the institutional role of the media in community development. Mwiza Munthali of Africa Now! was in the house and the old school of migrants from the 1960s came. Hello to Dr. Kofi Agyapong of Sons and Daughters of Africa and Chief, Pastor Alex Taku and a host of others who could remember Watergate as it happened - from Nixon to Obama.

Elected in April 2013 to represent District 4 in the City of Hyattsville, MD in Prince George's County, Councilman Edouard Haba was introduced by the wise man Mumin Bare of Montgomery County.  The Councilman inspired the assembly!

What was the goal of the forum?

Public-Private Partnership and capacity building are critical  in sustainable community development. Some miles have been gained.  However, there are still enormous barriers. By having a coherent plan and bringing together the  public sector and the community in order to  develop clear and common understanding of the problem from informed perspectives and to  implement viable solutions, society as a whole benefits from a healthy and wealthy population.  It will also cost the government less money  to prevent than to cure or ignore problems - or practicality.

Excerpts of Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett acknowledgment at the "Heath and Wealth: Equity For Continental Africans Forum" on May 14 , 2013

May 14 Ike
The Honorable Ike Leggett, Montgomery County Executive

The event highlighted two critical elements of public-private partnerships: 1) An  Accountable and Responsive County Government  2) The necessary social, civic and  professional capital of the Continental African community to undertake self-reliant developments.

Dr. Musica
Dr. Samuel Dogmo made a researched presentation on  the diversification of Montgomery and Maryland Work force and capacity Building.

In an increase pluralistic society with new population, workforce diversity is the creation of a culturally diverse one  in the city, county and state and nation through the recruitment, development, and upward mobility of workers in all professions and level of management. The diversity is visible because it should reflect the population of the jurisdiction. Currently, nobody knows as a matter of statistics what percentage of Continental Africans are in the workforce.  At the federal level, the White House made the recruitment of Hispanics (started by Bush) and Asians (started by Obama) targeted priorities.  At local levels, the goal of the presentation was to start the conversation on including Continental  Africans as an accountable target in workforce diversity.

Sonia Mora
Mrs. Sonia Mora, Director of the Maryland Welcome Back Center and Director of the Latino Health Initiative, Montgomery County, MD.

Mrs. Sonia Mora explained the knots and bolts of the Welcome Back Center. It is a national model operating in different states. The  Welcome Back Center supports internationally trained healthcare workers who wish to obtain professional credentials. It covers physicians, Nurses, Dentists, technicians. In Maryland, only the nurse's program has been instituted. 45% are Hispanics; 36% are Continental Africans.  A survey indicated that only 10% of foreign trained physicians practice in their specialties. Mrs. Mora also addressed Work Force Diversity.

May 14 Uma
The Director of Montgomery County Health and Human Services: Mrs. Uma Ahluwalia gave an overview of the efforts the County is making to ensure all populations have access to health care and social services.

New and emerging populations face special challenges due to the fact that existing policies and standards for inclusion may not  reflect their growing numbers and the distinguishing characteristics and cultural orientations that  influence behavioral  health,  preventive health care, and use of social services.  The  Continental African community, like their Hispanic and Asian counterparts, have similar obstacles due to cultural, language and other adjustment barriers. However, there are  extra hurdles faced by Continental Africans  based on the community's " new and emerging status" with little or  institutional resources, limited research and  advocacy, and unfunded outreach. The public advocacy and competent outreach are largely the  results of  volunteers going the extra mile with their own money and time to conduct research and using the assessments to sensitize lawmakers and the community on the issues.

As it has been repeatedly noted, there is  no systemic collection of data to understand the rate of a particular disease (morbidity) in order to prioritize resources from a data-driven perspective.  Unfortunate news and ideas on disease affliction or destitution are mostly known through funerals and emergency crises, especially when children are involved.

Based on post forum assessments, there is an alerting need to work with the Health and Human Service Department, the County Executive, and Legislative Branch to address service and resource disparities from evidence-based approach.

May 14 Dan Eke

The camera had no flash but the message was clear. A business mentor, Mr.  Dan Eke, CPA, owner of Daniel Eke and Associates, gave a compelling and experiential presentation on nurturing business entrepreneurs and professionals who need an entry into their fields.

Employment is essential for a Wealthy Community. New immigrants, including the highly educated,  may not have the professional experience and corporate culture background to be hired at their level of education. A job readiness program will address "structural unemployment" by helping job seekers with job references and preparation.

Terry Wansi

Professor Theresia Wansi of Marymount University jolted everyone to attention by opening with a question that places the woman as a bread maker and winner. She  methodically addressed gender equity in business opportunities, pointing to potentials in ethnic-oriented markets, too, and the need for micro loan programs to assist the entrepreneurial woman in the community.

May 14 Judy
Growing Business:  Mrs. Judy Stephenson, Manager of Business Navigation is open for business!  She is ready to work with the community in addressing barriers to business developments.
Are we ready?  That is the challenge for an organized and consistent Business Entity.

May 14 EliThe African Women Human Rights Group with  Mrs. Elizabeth Asaha explained the origin of the group: to essentially challenge the status quo that makes women secondary to any issue.  Straight from from work, the women came not to talk  about  oppression but to address the progressive ideals of after school and summer  activities for Continental African Youths. She stressed the value of self-esteemed heritage and positive character.

The programs are designed to support educational  achievements, risk-reduction and positive character  development while engaging  participants in useful hands on-activities like basket weaving, sports, civics, cultural expo, health lessons,  music, etc. Unlike the Hispanic and Asian youths, there are is  no specific program for Continental Africans. However, there is are models with African student clubs and organizations in local colleges. Students born in the US and from African immigrant background and immigrants students  from Africa are members and leaders of the clubs and organizations that can be replicated at community program levels.

May 14 VIOLA
In every community, there are cornerstones builders whose legacies engineer change. Paraphrasing Bernard Shaw, Robert F. Kennedy said, "Some men see things as they are and ask why I dream things that never were and ask why not." The inference is that people see society  they don't understand, feel victimized by the circumstances and ask in helplessness, why? The visionary doer asks: why not change it?

The  program was dedicated to, and the county honored, two great visionaries:

Mrs. Viola Kwamkwalala was honored posthumously. She was scheduled to speak but died two weeks earlier while organizing to make life better for African families in Montgomery County and to  launch Aspire to Inspire to provide educational opportunities in Malawi.  Her sister, Catherine Chisala accepted the honor on Viola's behalf.

May 14 - Dr. Emeka  Renowned Plastic Surgeon Dr. Emeka Onyewu was honored for this  pace-setting medical missions to Africa where he performs free surgery that the save lives of indigent  patients. In the county and state, his charitable contributions to the have-nots causes are priceless. Dr. Onyewu is the chairman of the African Women Cancer Awareness Association. His recent mission was to Cameroon in June 2013.

Dr. Onyewu is the African Philanthropist of the Year at the Image and Beneficence  Banquet on September 28, 2013.

Toast with a Way Forward

Raise your glass! It is not half-empty.

Based on feed-back and assessments of a Round-table discussion on challenges in the community, at the request of
Ms Evelyn Joe,
the County  Council's Health and Human Service Committee held a Discussion on the social service challenges facing the new and emerging  Continental African community.
To know more about this milestone development, you may download the Health and Human Service  summary in preparation for the Discussion:

What knowledge was gained  and how is the information being analyzed to develop ABCD in order remove access barriers and improve health and social resources in the Continental African population?

That  is the question.  Strategy sessions are being held to engage the Health and Human Service Committee in constructive, reality-based and  data-driven  solutions. A follow-up is suggested to organize an improved Discussion/Hearing  in 2014.

While many people think that new industrial giants are the most important factor in driving the economy, but small business is actually the top dog. Without small businesses, where would half of the country work?

Small business in America has been the stabilizing force in the economy. Entrepreneurs are the backbone of creativity and production. Small business is what stimulates economic growth. With over 60% of all private sectors, non-farm jobs coming from small business, it is a proven fact that small businesses are critical to the United States economy"

African religious groups constitute a growing segment of  ethnic oriented organizations. Nnaanyi,
Before I comment on IBK's vile words, let me first of all point out that I have been having problems with my email address in the last three days, resulting in my not being able to access it from remote cites. Even when I access it at home or at the office, I am constantly prompted to change my password and sometimes, I cannot send any emails. AOL  informed me that it is taking these measures because someone or some groups attempted phishing and impersonating of my account. All I can say about that for now is that the matter is under investigation.

I am not sure if this piece will post but whoever gets a copy should post it to the forums if it does not post through me.

I am stunned and appalled by IBK's insulting utterances directed at MsJoe. I never knew that IBK could be as crude and sexist as he has displayed on this thread. Incase you have not followed the thread, this is what happened or read the sequence following this piece.

MsJoe, a brilliant woman with whom I share mutual respect and admiration, was gracious enough to let us into her latest altruistic venture. I read everything and viewed the short youtube clip and was filled with nothing but joy and satisfaction. Since her intellect cannot be overemphasized, I elected to emphasize on other attributes of her's, which she should always be complimented for but which never gets any mention -- akin to what President Obama did with the Attorney General of California, which busybodies and haters misconstrued and distorted.

In her response, MsJoe expressed some shock but nevertheless accepted the compliment. I wrote back and succinctly expressed that she posses beauty, sexiness, braininess, and altruism which she shares with the world and all those qualities deserve mention on equal measure.

It was stupid and sexist of IBK to draw the type of conclusion he drew. As MsJoe pointed out, and as in the world that I operate, a man can compliment a woman for her beauty and for her sexiness without enlightened people dredging such compliment into the gutter (this is one of the areas where most African men are found wanting). If IBK were thoughtful and mature, he would have known that if what he had in mind was what I had in mind, I would not be stupid to indicate it in writing and then post it to a wide circulation, especially when my wife peruses these forums sometimes. Above all, I have sufficient respect for MsJoe and I appreciate her respect for me, so I would not be boorish and high-schoolish.

IBK's vulgar response to MsJoe's redirecting of him demonstrates his immaturity, improper education, and his total lack of respect for women. That IBK, who has an adult daughter, could carelessly objectify an intellectually unshakeable lady like MsJoe in the crude forms he has deployed, explains why he is on his 3rd or 4th marriage. For so many years until now, IBK had chastised men who did what he had just done and that was one attribute for which I thought that I could count on him without any letdown -- respect for women.

IBK's language to MsJoe is so crude and uncalled for that I hold him in the lowest ebb possible henceforth. I apologize to MsJoe that my ennobling words have been distorted by a very small man and that such distortion garnered her unjust insult. I look forward to seeing if IBK will be man enough to redeeming himself.

Nnanyi, once my email address is cleared properly, I shall be back in full force. I have read things that I must respond to -- one more response to George Ayittey, Ewaen's rampaging on Igbo, and Femi Fani Kayode's childish diatribe.

Ndewo, sir.

Nebu,

All these wasted verbosity just to assuage your wife for publicly falling cheaply for MsJoe's Siren entrapment. You are simply pathetic. Many on these forums have been burnt in the past.

When you are also burnt you will see how naïve and juvenile your stunted love skills are. You are a beloved brother but you behave like the proverbial chick being saved from death but complains of not being allowed to forage at the rubbish heap. You will soon become lunch for the hawk when MsJoe savours your entrails.

Buddy do not say I did not warn you. Knowing your penchant for self-flagellation you will not listen to good counsel. It is your sorry black arse if you fail to see the obvious. I have done what a brother should do but as you are destined for heartache and heartbreak so be it.

May your aol worries resolve soon so your flowery and flamboyant writings can be enjoyed.

Cheers.

Shukuma

You see what I told you before now. If you use your merecin your head go correct. Now you get it.

Nebu di Kadinezari is a small boy on the Internet. He lacks your elephantine memory and he does not know the characters here like you and I do. Nebu is a small boy boasting to us his elders about how expertly he can eat Agidi but in the end it will rub all over his mouth and chest.

Nebu is a Fear Fear man and an Igbo Efulefu who thinks like Patrick Obahiagbon and strings worthless big words together and gets an orgasm by so doing. When I warned him against that Jezebel who wanted to destroy the homes of Aluko and Valentine Ojo and tried to hit Igbo coconut heads against lovely Yoruba heads and Nebu's wife read my warning. He pissed in his pants and lied here that aol was disturbing his brains.

Yeye boy. He is a small chick that we are trying to save from the hawk but he wails we are curtailing his freedom of movement. The hawk will eat his intestines for brunch.

Nna Abeg forget that Nkita Nebu how you dey? How are you sniffing petrol at Boeing? I am sure your American economy is improving and you are now getting busy with small small welding work. I no dey read you here fiam fiam like before. Call the great Dibia at Orlu and tell him to make a small juju to save your Efulefu Nebu from that Siren and Jezebel combined.

Look I still remember that I promised you some snuff from my great grandmother's place. In Benin Republic. Go to your Facebook page and rub your nose against the screen I will send it there for you.

Take care and stay out of trouble and do not forget to use your pills.

Cheers.

While the Ngbati, Ngbatis were defending me and chastising her for calling my job, Igbos are at the background telling her what to do to me. By Chuks Agwunobi

Chuks Agwunobi of Ugba Junction:

The above statement is why I consider you a friend. Because during your rational state of mind, the real truth comes out. As far as Nigeria is concerned, Yoruba people remain the best friend of Igbo people. No other ethnic group  even comes close. You have stated the truth in a moment of candor.
Wharf the Snake of Orlu needs to follow your example.

The Oha 1
