Surely I say to you Buhari has a lot of people operating on the same mental frequency like him.

Vin
That is the tragedy called Nigeria. Too many folks --especially on these forums---making a lot of noise operating at the level of NEPA BILL!

Due to some algorithm I still don't understand their mails always seem to end up in my junk mail. Then folks like you respond to them and while reading you I have to see what you are responding to and it leads me to 😠

The real unfortunate thing is that these guys have driven away most of the very sound debaters who used to make interesting arguments worth reading around here.

The lady was married as a baby by Mohammed Buhari.  The issue came up

during election, but was covered up by Fulani thieves.

She probably had suffered untold abuses she is struggling to keep lid on.

Who knows how many times she had been tortured by Buhari?

And then she delivered 8 children?  She was literarily turned into a breeding dog and sex slave by this Buhari.  Those are clearly impeachable offense.

Baba Wharfy, no I don't condone his words, I don't practice what he stated in my household.
Women don't belong in the kitchen and the other room.
But I don't know what kind of arrangement Buhari has with his wife. His statement if taken as a personal one, from a religious man of 70, then it doesn't offend me. My dad or many of our African dads, and many on these forums would say the same or worse.

I give this to Buhari, He was specific.
Buhari did not say "ALL WOMEN", he said "my wife belongs in the kitchen......"
It sounds like a man who is following the tenets of his religion, like it or not, he has not done anything misogynistic. I have heard of men in Nigeria that refused to have their wives given blood transfusion because of their Christianity.
Are such men misogynistic, or just of confused mind?

That's his wife, not mine. Though Buhari was lesser on diplomacy, he categorically was talking about his wife.
His finance minister Mrs Adeosun, is a woman. That sealed the notion he is misogynistic. Buhari is crude in language, but I don't think he's misogynistic on women issues.
You guys should focus on his treacherous wife, who went to another country to disgrace her husband and her village, her State and nation.

Baba Wharfy, do you think his wife was right to go abroad and open the country and her husband's nyanshi to the whole world?
Have you ever read anywhere that a wife of a president went to a foreign country to talk badly about her husband the president?
Let's be fair, she is treacherous and dangerous.
image1.JPG

WATCH THIS WOMAN MY PEOPLE, IF SHE COULD BETRAY HER HUSBAND, SHE IS A VICIOUS ONE TO WATCH, SHE WOULD BETRAY ANYONE.

Can anyone mention any instance a president's wife in USA flew to Africa or Europe and got interviewed by BBC and told the world her husband doesn't know 40 of 50 members of his cabinet.
Now let's check out that statement:
Most of you guys blamed Buhari for putting his "people" in govt. That is now a lie according to Aisha.
If Buhari doesn't know 40 of the people working for him, could those 40 be partly Southerners?  Or middle-belt Nigerians?
I tell you my peoples, this woman is looking out for "numero uno", herself.

Aisha Buhari is fighting for Aisha Buhari.
She's not fighting for Yoruba, Igbo or any tribe.
She wants POWER!
If Buhari should die in office, this woman may be worse than the combination of Yar Adua's wife and Patience!
Even in the US, no wife has ever done what she did.
It is the utmost betrayal.
If a wife as the president, done that to Afis, even with my pro-feminine, I will bar her out of Aso Rock. She's toxic and dangerous.
Buhari was elected not Aisha. Buhari tersely asked if Aisha is a member of any party......is she a leader of any party?
She said she won't campaign for Buhari......who knows monkey if not because of Buhari?
Watch out Nigerians, this woman may be "worser" than Patience Jonathan.

A president's wife is to be seen not to be heard.
Though the president sounded misogynistic like George Kerley pointed out, I think Buhari is on the right path.
I am staying with Buhari on this one.
Aisha wants power, she didn't get it, she went to a foreign country to embarrass and betray her husband.
That ain't African, not British, not American, not any culture!

Hilary Clinton once made her husband lost second term election just because she refused to play the role of a wife. Before next election she changed her last name from Rodham to Clinton, and accepted the traditional role of the First Lady of Arkansas, and they won the Gubernatorial election.
Buhari did not explain himself and spoke like a true African with no diplomatic language just pure husband's fury!

Alagba Afis,

A kì í pè é lẹ́rù ká pè é lọ́ṣọ̀ọ́. (An event is either a boon or a disaster; never both.)

Buhari cannot be right and wrong at the same time. The man is a disaster and needs to retire back to his household in Daura. Haba what kind of man is this? What century does he think we are in? The man appears unread and lacks knowledge of current events and his surroundings. He is disgracing and embarrassing us and needs to be moved aside for a dynamic younger person. Nigeria does not need geriatrics anymore.

A kì í rí i ká tún sọ pé a ò ri mọ́. (Always stand by your word.)

Alagba Afis, this is what I think happened between Madam on top and the President. There was a fight in the other room which continued in the public domain between the husband and wife. The wife felt the only way for the archaic president to pay attention was to continue the fight in public.

A kì í sọ̀rọ̀ ìkọ̀kọ̀ kó má diyàn ní gba-n-gba. (Whatever is done in secret soon becomes exposed.)

Àbàtá pani; àbàtá pani; ká ṣá sọ pé odò-ó gbéni lọ. (One should prefer plain talk to euphemisms.)

Alagba Afis, I prefer to call a spade a spade and let the storm settle wherever it may. I don't believe in forked judgement. As a Yoruba man I am aware that damage is done when judgement is incentivized.
Àbẹ̀tẹ́lẹ̀ ní ńfọ́jú onídàájọ́. (Bribery beclouds judgement.)

Blaming the woman is not the best road to take my Alagba. I would prefer that we make a better articulation of the issues.  Àdàpè ọ̀rọ̀ ò jẹ́ ká mọ ìtumọ̀ orúkọ. (Circuitous talk is liable to lead to confusion.)

Wharfrey,
Let me add to your points as follows:
(i) Buhari is the president of Nigeria, so when he says publicly and at an official function (not in a bar, a mosque, or in his hamlet of Daura) that his wife belongs in his kitchen and bedroom (metaphors for satiating his appetites for food and sex), it carries a negative weight and no one who understands the power of words would restrict his point to his wife alone. If president Obama said similarly, it would be immediately understood that he was talking about womanhood, not specifically about his wife.

(ii) Buhari is not an Imam and Nigeria is not an Islamic Republic. If he believes that women belong in the kitchen, then he must believe that prepubescent girls should be married off to old men for 4th wives, limbs should be hacked off for theft, women should be stoned to death for adultery, a woman is unworthy of accusing a man of rape, etc. Well, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which he heads, does not confine women to such status. Those who keep giving him passes on account of his religion are indirectly turning Nigeria into an Islamic state.

(iii) Aisha Buhari did not say anything that reasonable Nigerians have not observed -- that the president packed his administration with nefarious hawks who have constituted themselves into a government within a government. This cliques has been trying to undermine and remove the Acting EFCC Chairman; it has been alleged to be involved in one corrupt act or the other; it could not or did not even offer to help Buhari become president, but it is now calling the shots after Tinubu did so, while he (Tinubu) seems to have been marginalized.

(iv) Aisha Buhari did not go outside of Nigeria to grant any interview. BBC Hausa Service is based in Kaduna, so those who are saying that she went outside of the country to speak are being ignorant. It is also ignorant and slanderous to say that she seeks power. Before the election that brought her husband into office, she was asked her position over her husband's threat of doing away with the office of the First Lady and she answered that
she was in support of him over that because it is an unconstitutional creation in the first place. There is no evidence so far for any person to reasonably assert that she seeks power. The theme of her speech was on the people and the need to fulfill promises made to them. She felt that promises made to the people were not being fulfilled because some powerful hawks, who neither have the interest of the country or of her husband at heart, have hijacked the administration.

(v) Why didn't the president ask what party she belongs to when she went about Nigeria last year campaigning for him? Do you see how Nigerians like to eat their cakes and still have them? She can campaign for him to become president (and her grace must have won him millions of votes) but she cannot hold a political opinion as to the direction his presidency is heading, isn't that incredible?

(vi) Laura Bush granted media interview where she publicly disagreed with her husband on overturning Roe v. Wade (and there were other disagreements). Michelle Obama raised hell, while giving a speech during her husband's first term, about his administration not stringently addressing poverty and issues affecting the inner city. Hillary Clinton was called an activist First Lady because she always had and expressed policy positions that did not always agree with her husband's. Other than misogyny, why would any sane Nigerian consider Aisha Buhari's advocacy for poor Nigerians treacherous? Her major concerns are that APC has strayed away from the people-oriented policies it espoused during the campaigns last year and that the party has been fractured by people who did not put it together, did not participate in ensuring its victory, but are now calling the shots. Obviously she was not talking about Tinubu and his group (who Afis wrongly assumes she was referring); she was actually talking about Mamman Daura and company. We can tell that she was talking about them because she said that she does not know these folks even though she has been married to Buhari for 27 years -- she does not have to know Tinubu and group through marriage and would not have said so if she meant him. Above all, it is not a secret that Tinubu is not calling the shots with this presidency. They woman was advocating for the impoverished masses of Nigeria, not for herself.

Anyway, Nigerians are a phony and funny people who should be left alone to bear the overloads they impose on themselves. By their fruits we shall know them.

Baba Wharfy, you know me by now, I don't care what Oyinbo thinks of Afis or Africa.
Most of the hypocrites here will fume if their wives who also have a day job and came home tired, failed to cook for them........or after laboring on pundo yam cooking, after the day's grueling job, the wife dared say "I am tired, the other room can't happen today", hehe!
These same hypocrites will fume, huff and puff until the police arrival to help them cool down.
Once a true misogynistic guy here thought he was insulting Afis. I just happened to mention I do not support wives cooking for the family on Valentine's Day, or Mother's Day.......that in appreciation of a good loving wife and mother, one should take her to restaurant.
The idiot, let's just call him Ezeana, called me less than a man. The fool said proudly that his Lolo slaves for him because she loves cooking so much she would be mad at him if he ever suggested to take her out to an expensive restaurant. Hogwash, pure malarkey!!
That's a true African man's talk, not a good specimen of decency, but at least not a hypocrite.

Buhari was just unrefined.
Or maybe he's too Truthful due to his piety approach to life?  Because Buhari seems very brash and upfront when not scripted.
I don't approve his words, but I appreciate his honesty.
At least he's not a hypocrite like most guys condemning him here, those that I have read and felt appalled about their utterances on Women's Rights, with all their so called education and being opened to civilized environment, are now appalled at Buhari's words. Gimme a break!
There's nothing Buhari said which most Nigerians or Africans don't think and do.
That's just a fact, not my approval.

Is Buhari right to say "she belongs in my kitchen.......blah"?
Unless I know his arrangement with his wife on how they run their household, as an African, I just can't bring myself to be the judge of that.
Is Buhari in his deeds for his immediate family, a man who believes women should stay in the kitchen and bedroom?
I can't bring myself to agree with his detractors.
I tried very hard to study the guy, I strongly and totally refuse to judge him on one gaff be it "an international embarrassment" or not.

Let's look into what the man has done for his wife over the years, then judge him in whole:

Buhari was the one that sent Aisha Buhari to school or university, where according to rumors, Aisha read books pali to pali, up to Masters degree.

Born in 1971, married in 1989, went to ABU in Zaria.
She was 18, when she married, I am guessing...... or  with confidence let's step it up two notches......I presume she did not bring Masters degree from her family's house.
I try to break it down, I just can't backwardly turn his gaff into the "Wu Wei" chinese philosophy, i.e. going with "senseless and pretentious" flow of a pretentious Nigerian crowd..........just because a 70yr old African man whom we all know is not pretentious, made a diplomatic gaff in front of White people.

Buhari is a strict Muslim, we all know.
However, this same Islamist was liberal enough to encourage his wife to attend university. That doesn't look like the action of a man that keeps his wife in the kitchen and the other room.

And this same Islamist lived with a smart educated woman for 27yrs and they seemed happy, raised their kids which most Africans could be proud of.
The only time we now hear of major rift was when Buhari openly promised those who elected him, that there wouldn't be any duty or room for First Lady.
Buhari now seems to be carrying out his promise to those who elected him, that's when we heard rumblings and his ungrateful wife now "carrying nose", o ngbe imu!

A president's wife is not given any duty in the Naija's constitution, just as in US constitution, Aisha should stop bitching.
It was HRC who states:
"The First Lady role is really difficult. It has no job description... You have to create it for yourself."......Hillary Clinton.

Jackie Kennedy's words ring some truth: "I think the major role of the First Lady is to take care of the President so that he can best serve the people. And NOT TO FAIL HER FAMILY, her husband, and children."
These are Oyinbo ladies ooooo!

Aisha Buhari in my view betrayed her husband, failed her children and family, failed her village, failed her State, and failed her country Nigeria.
I don't feel ashamed from what the white man calls or thinks of me, or what anyone for that matter thinks I am.
What can jolt me to my marrowbones, what can bring me shame and have me hide my face forever, is if all I have worked for, if all I nurtured, of all I dotted upon amounted to nothing or one of them betrayed me.

What Aisha Bihari did to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the utmost betrayal of a loved one, a backstabbing.
This is a man who married her at 18, sent her to ABU, and had her own business according to her bio.
As we can see, she is not made to cover her face with hijab, not made to live in purdah as in Sharia laws which is part of the strict Islamic tenets.
So what did she do to repay this man?
Went on BBC to betray her husband?
And you want me to call her a local champion?
Of what?

Afis:

May your tribe increase!

I agree with 95% of what you wrote below, except that you were a little bit too harsh on Aisha, who is probably regretting the political firestorm she caused by her unguarded remarks in Nigeria's toxic political environment. Clearly, Buhari should have simply said "I will talk to my wife when I get home" rather than his chauvinistic gaffe unsuccessfully masking an anger over his wife's loaded statements.

The irony is that most of the wailers salivating over the domestic quarrel writ large are uncaring about her charge (too many appointees unknown to PMB) and their own charge (too many appointees close to him). They cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time.

As I wrote elsewhere, Buhari and Aisha, like most Nigerian elite,  should learn to be more circumspect before the Press - particularly the foreign press. Also, as husband and wife, even in this gaffe-ridden situation, should, for the sake of the nation, pay attention to what each has expressed: there will be kernels of truth in them. Finally, rather than feed the Wailers and their enablers who would further toxify our environment, they should cut the public crap - and move on: to stimulating the economy, bringing more Chibok girls home and more judges in, etc.

And there you have it.

Good morning sir.
That's the point really.
I wonder how one can reconcile both.
Thanks sir!
