to Friends of Awesome
I had the most wunderfoil existence on Thursday night. I was heading out by bike after dark in red pants to the Entwined sculpture in GG Park to give away the last of my 280 lbs of persimmons for the season. In the Panhandle, I ran into others in red (and white) clothing. One person was greeting everyone cheerily as we rode along. I thought “something’s up!”
It was coincidence that I had red pants. They were all heading somewhere. Stopping at the light to cross Masonic, the greety person stopped beside me and I said “What is this?” Then I said, wait, don’t I know you!? It was my best ever student from the California Studies program. She was assuming I was part of the event, based on my pants.
Ensued: six hours of adventures as part of the Hiking Club’s Magick Festival (poss 1st annual?).
In the course of the evening, I learned that she was the instigator of much of the event. They had applied for an Awesome SF grant which we hadn’t given because we knew it was to happen with or without our $1000. But I had somehow forgotten about it entirely. There were 32 locations of interactive art and adventure on a map we picked up at a “swear to have a good solstice” induction ceremony in the Panhandle.
Spontaneous adventure! Fantastic! Amazing people.
