My apologies for being remise on the lawn project. Real quickly - when the city put the giant utility box in by the alley on the city right of way they destroyed the sprinkler zone that waters my corner. That is why is looks so bad. I got a bid to repair and re-sod just that area. That bid was $4000 plus.

I got two other bids and a third landscaper that never showed. One bid was open ended. The second was $27,544. Here is the why. In the process of removing the old sod both landscapers said the sprinkler system would be destroyed. The repairs would cost as much as putting in a whole new system that is included in the $27K.

Cal and Judy are own their own system. I briefly discussed the sprinkler system/sod with them and they are not interested in this project. So that leaves the five connected townhouse contributing $5508. I would rather save those funds to have railing repainted in the next go around of things to attend to, and that will be a big project as they need to be powder coated not just sanded and painted. My railings are in the worst shape but I can hold off until the rest of the railing system starts looking like mine. Cal and I both think if I put a band-aid on the broken zone, with water that grass will come back. So that is where I think I would like to head.

Thoughts? Questions? I’ll be down this coming Thur-Sunday…..if my case of Covid clears up. As of yet very mild symptoms for both my husband and me who have all four boaster shots! With that I hope you are all well

Hi Jen,
Thanks for looking into this, and I had Covid this week also :( .

I vote to skip the sod, as long as we can keep up the watering and Leo the lawn guy keeps coming. Because of the amount of foot traffic, short-term parking, deliveries, and attendant garbage, a huge expense on sod would probably not be worth it. I know the dandelions were driving some of us crazy, but with the lawn mowed regularly, it seems less noticeable.

I’m in on the railings any time now, whenever everyone is ready.

I asked Leo the lawn guy to clean up the alley where our garages are, and he did that this morning, for one extra week’s payment, so that everyone is aware when we settle up later.

Jen, Richard, et al,

Sorry to hear you have to battle covid; hope you get over it promptly and without any complications.

We visited with Jen outside about ten days ago regarding the sod, and the existing grass conditions will improve surprisingly well with water, mowing, and some individual attention to some bare spots with grass seed. The result won't be instantaneous like sod, but much easier to manage financially and with a good result.

We had just got our 4th shot (2nd booster) just a couple days before we met Jen! We are feeling fine.

I'm sure you are all keeping your Vitamin D levels really high to help deal with prevention and level of impact if it does break through.

Stay well.
