Also experiencing this issue, as noted in macvim-dev/macvim#255. It appears to have started happening for me some time between patch 7.4.1362 and the current HEAD.

I'll try to do a git bisect in the next few days to determine the exact commit that (re-?)introduced the issue.

Before you go to the trouble of bisecting -- why not try the latest
netrw, which you can get from my website:
