Sheldon Patinkin's only major television credit was as a co-creator and first season producer of "SCTV," but that tied in with his status as the one person associated with Chicago's Second City from Day One--until his death earlier Sunday.  Although he dropped in and out with his association with Second City, he remained a teacher, consultant and script doctor throughout that company's history, along with being chair of the theater department at Columbia College Chicago, artistic director at the now-defunct National Jewish Theater in suburban Skokie, adapter, director, author (of books about Second City--natch!--and American musical theater), teacher and eminence of Chicago theater, influencing directly or indirectly the stars you've seen on television, the bit players on Dick Wolf's Chicago shows and of course almost everyone who does comedy on TV or elsewhere--his legacy will endure for generations to come:

Not kin to New York's Mandy, for whom Mother J still pines post-Criminal Minds acting.
