Hi everyone,
Last year we organized a very successful "home base" group-training series on the weekends. We are going to do something very similar again this year!
What: Each weekend, we'll arrange an opportunity to get together at different locations for a combination of swim, bike and run training.
Where: Each event will take place at a different location around the greater Portland area. Each event will have one or two "host" person(s) who will select the day's courses based on their experience with the area and interest in sharing favorite training routes with other TRIDEXXers. Weather permitting, the event will typically start with an open-water swim (wetsuit highly recommended!). After swimming, the group will gear up for the bike and run courses. Folks are welcome to join for only the courses they are interested in. A rough schedule for each day will be provided by the host to facilitate meeting up, and the swim location will generally serve as the meeting point and start/finish for the bike and run courses.
Who: All skill levels are welcome! The atmosphere will be inclusive and supportive. Based on who is in attendance, the group may spilt up to bike or run at different paces, or we may all stay together. During the swim, we will generally stay together. No one will be left behind. Course distances will typically be equivalent to a Sprint triathlon.
When: An event will be scheduled most open weekends through the spring and summer. The steering committee is currently making an initial schedule and this post will be updated with a calendar within a couple weeks -- we plan to start the schedule after the Sebago Triathlon is completed.
Event-Specific Information: Each weekend's host will provide instructions with regard to start time, meeting place, training courses, parking, contact information, contingency plans for weather, etc. Detailed information for each event will be posted here on Google Groups in a dedicated topic created by the host. The event topic is a good place to look for updates, ask questions, and/or let the host and others know that you will be attending. For convenience, we'll aim to put links to each event thread in the schedule spreadsheet above.
In the event of cancellations or other important updates, the host person will serve as the primary point of contact, and they will provide their cell number to aid in any last minute communications in the field. If you will be attending, please consider adding your number on the TRIDEXX Contact Information spreadsheet so that the host or other attendees can reach you if necessary.
These events are a great opportunity to train and practice your race skills and also get to know fellow TRIDEXXers.
Hope to see you out there!
