Hi everyone,

Have we been able to increase our discount through the group order?  If I recall correctly, the two benefits from ordering with the group are:
  1. A savings of $4 per box off shipping, and
  2. Because our order window extends from the end of one month to the beginning of the next, we can take advantage of both month's specials.
For me, however, the long drive to the pick-up point negates the cost savings (50 miles = 1.67 gallons of gas = $5-6 at current prices).  I have to order two boxes to make ordering with the group worthwhile financially - and this says nothing of the time lost on this 1.5 hour round-trip drive.  By ordering multiple boxes, I lose the second benefit, since I could always order one box in one month and another box in the following month on my own.

Overall, there is little to no benefit to ordering with the group.  Is there any way to fix this?

Possible solutions are:
  1. Negotiate a higher savings with Hare Today.
  2. Find a new supplier who will extend a larger benefit.
  3. Change the drop-off/pick-up points.
My understanding is that HT will not lower shipping any further, and various members are searching for a new supplier.   What is preventing us from changing the pick-up location to one more central?  Alternatively, why not have several pick-up points throughout the area?  If we can improve the convenience for the co-op members, then more members will order with the group, and it will be easier to meet the minimums.

Thoughts?

Liz

Hi Folks,

The next order would normally be placed during the last couple of days of this month and first 2 days of Oct. I have been the organizer for a short time but I am stepping down for several reasons. I want to have my order delivered to my house – I usually get 2 boxes and that will only cost me $4 extra per box. In the past I have usually had to drive at night to get my order which is exhausting after a long day of work. Also, it is over an hour round trip for me. The last pickup was kind of the last straw for me because it was pitch dark, very difficult to see where to turn around and hard to back out onto the road + my boxes were soaking wet & falling apart from the storm. What a big mess trying to get that all into the car and then into my house!

I’m sorry to bail out of the organizer role with short notice but this coop is not delivering any real advantage to me and the pick-up address is very inconvenient. When someone steps up as organizer, I will forward you all the info and change over the ownership of the google group. If no one does that within the next week I will transfer ownership of the google group to Suzanne, whom I believe started this coop.

Several folks, including me, are looking into other suppliers who are here in the Piedmont area of North Carolina hoping to get better prices + no delivery fees since we could pick up orders at the place of business. Although we probably won’t find the “unusual meats” at these businesses, you can still order from Hare Today for approximately $4 more per box delivery fee and have it delivered to your home if you so desire. We are getting ready to gather info from the local processors/butcher shops. If you want to help with this project please email me directly: pbko...@earthlink.net.

Regards,
