Hi all,

TortoiseGIT 1.7.3.0-32bit
msysGIT 1.7.6-preview20110708

I'm trying to clone an SVN repository from an HTTPS URL, and am getting the "Error validating server certificate" error for my repository. I've figured out that I can get around that by setting "[http] sslverify=false" in my .gitconfig file. Indeed, when I do that and run git svn clone from the CMD prompt, it works.

However, I can't get this to work using the "Git Clone" context menu at all. It's like the .gitconfig file is being completely ignored.

  • TortoiseGIT is installed in C:\sw\TortoiseGit
  • msys GIT is installed in C:\sw\Git
  • "Edit global .gitconfig" from TortoiseGit opens C:\Documents and Settings\user.name\.gitconfig"
I have manually verified that this .gitconfig file contains:
    [http]
        sslverify = false

If I run "git config --global http.sslverify false" from the command line, it uses the same .gitconfig file (verified by clearing the file and running that command from the command prompt).

Possibly relevant environment variables:

HOME=C:\Documents and Settings\user.name
HOMEDRIVE=H:
HOMEPATH=\

And I rebooted as well.

What am I missing here? Why is "git" when started through TortoiseGit ignoring my global .gitconfig file?

Kind regards, Maarten
