From new member kafuekid:
My son is in San Saba and was eligible for reclassification to trustee level. He submitted the request and was told today it is denied, based on Code 14, and cannot apply for another year. Nobody at San Saba classification is able to tell him what Code 14 is. Is there anyone out there who has any idea what this code might mean, please?

My answer:  (if you find an error in my info or have more to add, please do respond)

We recently added TIFA Talk to our new website, but not many people are aware that it is here. However, we have had a Google Group called TIFA Talk for many years. I will pass your question along to that group.

I have been trying to research your question on the TDCJ website, but have not yet found any answers. I believe that your best bet, considering that no one at the unit seems to have the answer, would be to call either the TDCJ Ombudsman's Office (936-437-8035) or the TDCJ Classification Office (936-437-6231).

Good luck. I will post access info for the Google TIFA Talk Group and will let you know what I learn. If you don't hear from me in a few days, please contact me at ti...@tifa.org. Thanks! Susan

Try unit classifications, then regional and then Huntsville
classifications. Since it dealt with classifications, one
of those offices should know. In the meantime, I will see
what I can find out.

They already tried classification at the unit.  I really forgot about trying regional.  That would logically be the the next step.  Thanks, Robert.  ~S

I have a couple of comments.

Usually, when people say "trusty" they are speaking of outside trusties, or what is called G1 Minimum Out, the guys who drive tractors and live in trusty camps. That promotion in custody level is a privilege. One isn't even considered for that unless one is already G2 Minimum In, and the two groups draw the same good time. The TDCJ doesn't have to tell you anything about why they didn't give someone a promotion from G2 to G1. You can ask who you want and chances are you won't be told. That decision is usually done by a committee, and most often the highest ranking person makes a decision and the others follow.

However, if when you say "reclassification for trustee level, he is in Line Class I, II or III, and is trying to get promoted to State Approved Trusty Status, then this is  in fact a good time earning category question, and they must tell him why he was denied. The good time granted convicts is determined by what good time earning category they are in. There are three levels of "trusty" and those are State Approved Trusty I,  II, III and IV.. For all  intents and purposes, they draw similar good time, which in all cases is more than drawn in Line Class I, II, and III. So, if that is the "trusty" class he is trying to get "reclassified" back into, then he has a right to know.
