I was up there a couple weeks ago in the evening, we took a canoe upstream and did OK during a stretch of very hot weather, fishing the deep pools near the Maryland side. Check in with the park manager, Marty. He's a good friend of mine and fishes there a lot.

Just a heads up if you want to rent a kayak they require that you take their introductory kayak class which "certifies" you. But you can also rent a canoe or john boat, and there is no certification required to do that.

I fished riverbend today with a friend.  We caught two smallies and one bluegill before we were rained out.  The water is up a little and flowing hard.

My buddy John and I fished Riverbend this Saturday from about 9am to noon.  The water was as warm as a bath tub in spots.  We were able to bring in a few bluegill on clouser minnows and pheasant tail nymphs.  Also had a few small mouth strikes on a green wooly bugger.

I fished Sunday morning from the MD side before the deluge.  I felt the water temperature was lower than usual. 
The fish seemed to be less active than usual.  I was able to sight fish to a couple of smallmouth topwater on a slider, but other than that, not much was going on. 

It was still beautiful to be out on the river.

I have never fished Riverbend before but would like to give it a try. I have heard that they recently started a "no wading" policy here. Can anyone elaborate on this, is it enforced or just a suggestion. Also do you need to wade here or can you hop from rock to rock to get to a good spot?

Eric,

You need to walk at least five minutes at a fast pace upstream on the sand trail to get to the wading locations. I doubt anyone would come out and tell you to get out of the water if you are that far up. And the PawPaw are in season so be sure to pick some off the trees or sand to eat, its like banana custard!

Anywhere above the fire trail x nature center is all wadable. You can put in  your boat at the ramp and head across the river to fish the braided islands. The boat ramp is really  nasty as all sorts of sediment deposits there.

You could save time by parking at the nature center and taking the fire road down. Look on Google Maps for the pond near the river. Lots of people walk up to the 'pipeline' and fish there. Stick to the rock ledges and drop offs where there is more oxygen and you will find the smallies. Don't hesitate to keep a small bluegill on the line, the big fish WILL eat them off your line there.

Has anyone tried to go the other way and wade on the other side of the three foot dam?

I just waded there this past monday and no one said anything to me about it.

I go there all the time - just past where the GFNP sign is and little further on the gravel path.  There is small clearing where you can see small islets and a diversion of the river.  SMB, Pumpkinseeds, Green Sunfish and Yellow Perch.

I am looking at google maps and I am not sure where the fire trail or the nature station is.  Where is the pipeline as well?

Only info i know of pipeline is a 10 min walk upsrream from park. So how ever far you walk in 10, i couldnt find it but i only fished riverbend twice so far.

To get to the pipeline park at the nature center not the main area of the park. Go down the path in the back of the parking lot. Follow that path till it brings you out on a larger trail I believe it's called bootlegger trail. Follow that till you come to the river, the trail will turn left. Stay straight on this trail, you will cross a bridge and then know your at the pipeline when you come to the first big clearing. It is probably about 20 min or so walk.
