Softex

If I go tying Bob Popvics flies, can I use this softex ( http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=888P ) as silicone or flex?  If no, I would have to buy flex, RV light and etc...too expensive. Unless you have better suggests? Thanks.

I think Softex (or Clear Cure Goo Tack-free Flex) would work and provide a great texture. I think the only issue would be durability. Part of the reason Bob developed those flies was so they wouldn't get destroyed from a single strike by a toothy critter (Blues, mostly, I believe). So I think recommends something harder like Z-poxy, 5-minute epoxy or Clear Cure Goo Thick. 

Personally, I like Clear Cure Goo Tack-free Flex because I like the gumminess of the material. Seems to me to be something fish will hold onto a little longer. To get a truly tack-free finish, though, be sure to rub the material down with (or simply dip it into) rubbing alcohol once you're completely done shaping it.

Go with 5 minute epoxy, like z poxy, it's good ,very clear and resistant...if you wan't to try uv resins at a good price try solarez.

My main problem with Softex is keeping the lid and the jar threads clear of it - if you're not fastidious about it, you'll end up with plenty of the stuff but unable to get the damn jar open.

There's a trick for keeping the threads clear on marine goop tubes by applying vaseline.   It works for me so far on Softex as well.

Thanks all for feedback on this Softex , Clear Cure Goo Flex, Zpoxy, etc. I would try softex first. try next products if not happy with softex.
