SAVE THE DATE! Family and Youth Casting Call May 3rd and 4th

We need volunteers! Volunteers to help kids fish and otherwise keep this event running smoothly. We start in the morning each day and wrap up in the mid-afternoon. We provide breakfast, lunch and an event t-shirt.

Since 2007 we have hosted a free kids fishing day at Fletcher's Boathouse on the Potomac. Last year we had over 750 kids and their parents attend the two day event. The Friday May 3rd event is an invite only event for DC and MD school kids. The Saturday May 4th event is open to the public. We stock a portion of the C&O canal, provide all the equipment and a host of other educational activities for the kids when not fishing. 

We count on TPFR to provide the volunteers that keep this event running. This year we made a conscious decision not to schedule the event in conflict with the Virginia Flyfishing Festival so more TPFR members could participate.

Oops. Hit send too soon. If you want to participate on Friday but have to work, look into your company's charitable service policy. We have quite a few federal employees and several businesses that allow their employees to count volunteering as a paid work day.

I wanted to give this post one more bump. I am sure more volunteers would be much appreciated at this year’s casting call. I have personally volunteered at this event the last several years and it is fun every single time. Brad does a bang up job putting this together so if you can make it out please register for one or both days. I know volunteers are always a premium on weekdays, but you will be hard pressed to find something as worthwhile as teaching the next generation to fish.

We'll be there both days.  

I mean, this is helping our youth learn to enjoy fishing!  This isn't a career fair or a phony SAT prep course or the DC Relay for Feral Cats something (I've heard the cat relay is a real zinger though to tell the truth).   This is actually important to society, and it's hard for me to type those words without laughing!  

I'm going to fire up Motorhead in the truck and make the best of a mandatory furlough day on the 3rd.  The 4th is bonus.  

The t-shirt says Slacker right?

We had too many kids and not enough volunteers on Friday. Lesson learned there.

Today was much more leisurely and we had a blast! Thanks to all the TPFR members that showed up.
