I'm headed to Nashville, TN in a couple of weeks to visit family. It looks like I'll have the chance to sneak away for a day to fish. Has anyone fished in or around Nashville? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a good friend that lived there and we tried to fish one of the times I visited, and in general I think the fishing there is worse than the DC area. I've only fished the Duck River in that area, which was about an hour away, the water was stained and silty when we tried, fishing was not good. My friend occasionally hit the Caney Fork for trout, and the tailwater of Percy Priest lake for carp and bass. If I were in Nashville, I would opt to close down The Stage and sleep it off instead of fishing.

Another thought would be to take the 4-hour drive to the South Holston, pushing the limits for a day trip but fishing may be epic.

I'm not sure how far you are from the TVA.  If you're close enough I would suggest the Wataga or the South Holston.

Have fished Land Between Lakes a couple times. really good fishing in the summer but i'm sure there's several options closer to the city.

I'm from Nashville--actually just moved back up here to DC a few weeks ago. I did most of my fly fishing on the Caney Fork less than an hour east of Nashville. I know that lately they've been doing funky things with the generation schedules and I also think there has been recent legislation that has changed fishing regulations below dams, so I'd look into both those things before heading out there. If those things end up being favorable, you'll find some nice fish.

You might think about visiting Lynchburg TN. It's about an hour and a half southeast, but you could end your day of fishing on the Elk River with a tour of the nearby Jack Daniels distillery. It's beautiful country out there.

Cooper is spot on with Caney Fork river.  Easy road side access from Nashville and potentially really good fishing. Take exit 268 off I40. Several access points on road along the river. Respect the power generation and dont believe the published schedule as it will change without notice. http://www.tva.gov/lakes/cnh_r.htm I almost went swimming in December as the water rises fast.
