I'm hoping to do a full day float trip down the James for smallmouth in late July. Lowest price I have found online is $350. Most places are closer to $400. Anyone know of anyone charging less? Willing to forgo some of the niceties. Don't need lunch. Don't need equipment. Don't need casting lessons. Thanks.

Try lookibg for Fishing With Fly.  He noved to Colorado but has other conbections still in the east. Him n his friends are great guides.

I wouldn't skimp on a guide. $400 is a reasonable price for a full day
(plus tip). That is for 2 people, so it brings the price down by half.

I don't even know if they still offer fly fishing stuff. But Riders Up Outfitters in Clifton Forge is a possibility. If I was down there I could take you out. I grew up on the Cowpasture River which meets with the Jackson to form the James River.

Wow Justin,  you grew up in a beautiful part of America. I wish I had a way to beam myself down there every time I want to fish for trout or smallmouth or panfish, especially during the heat of the summer here.  I am hoping to get a chance to fish the upper James sometime later this summer or maybe it will have to wait until next year.

Thanks for posting
