Good morning everybody.

A friend of mine said he saw somebody fly fishing in Rock Creek, under the Connecticut Avenue bridge. I figure there are some panfish... do they stock trout in the colder months? What is the story?

Thanks!
Mike

There aren’t any trout in those waters, Mike. You can find more than panfish, but typically the fishing is better as you get closer to the Potomac . This is especially true in the short section which is tidal. I’ve caught decent cats and carp in certain sections.

I've seen a picture of a rainbow caught in Rock Creek but it was almost certainly in an area closed to fishing, which according to the National Park Service (hat tip to Griz at Urban Angler), no fishing is allowed north of the Porter St bridge.
