Excellent beer tie at Ri Ra last night, folks.  There must have been 60 people there!  Thanks for taking my Fly Fisherman back issues off my hands.  I'll have more next month, maybe (Fly) Rod & Reel or some English magazines.  And it was great to meet and talk to Greg, Kyle, Casey, Dan, Miles and a few other folks whose names I've managed to forget.

I've actually done really well fishing a trico hatch with a banged up Griffith's gnat.  Traditional trico spinners can bring about some snobby refusals, but when you throw something "different" at them, they can be a lot more cooperative.  A few years back, I was on Spring Creek up in PA and I switched over to the smallest Griffiths gnat I had after having no luck (i.e. non-stop refusals) on a traditional spinner.  The gnat produced very well.  So well, that only a hook and black thread - that was unwinding - were left by the end of the hatch and fish were still sipping it.  So don't be afraid to throw something different at them!

Alright.  Then I might tie a few differnt tiny black looking flies so I have options.  Ill throw up some pics as soon as I get them from Penn Creek this weekend.  It was a really great brown trout fishery.  But also managed some huge river chubs, and a few smallies.  I never knew what I had on my line.

Dan, try to find the book Tricos by Bob Miller.  Looking at the prices, it's become a collectors item.

Here is a super easy trico spinner pattern http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz4_9XRu9PI

Only requires 3 materials:
- black thread
- flat packing foam sheet
- paintbrush

Thats a great video.  Thanks.  Would it make any sense to tie these with different tail or thread colors?  Atleast with my midges, i always have 4-5 different colored ones.  Black seems to always catches the most tho.

Great video Rob -- I bookmark nearly everything you've put out there so I'll know what to do when I finally get a vise and some tools ;).

Great tie -- we really enjoyed it.  Lots of good folks --
