Hi Arik

Is Resque running on the same machine as Sphinx? It needs access to the index files to update them as part of the delta process.

Hi Pat,

No, it's on a different machine. But I thought it accesses the Sphinx indexes via some API like it does for search...
Is it mandatory to run on the same machine or there is a way to avoid it?

I'm afraid it's mandatory - the indexer tool accesses the files directly, so they need to be on the file system of the machine with the delta workers. I guess you could set up a networked directory of some such? Not sure how easy that would be to do, and whether it's worth the effort.

I think it will be easier for us to setup Resque to run on the same server, although I hoped to avoid that (one more server to update code on).
You might want to add it to the FAQ page re. Thinking Sphinx (is it a Wiki)?

Thanks!

The docs aren't a wiki - but they are a repo that others can fork and patch:
https://github.com/freelancing-god/freelancing-god.github.com

That said, I'll try to get something in the docs soon noting that - you're right, it should certainly be made clear from the beginning.
