Well, that didn't take long. Granted, Avengers was one of the best comics movies I've ever seen, but I still thought we'd hear more about solo movies before the next team pic.

I think these are ahead of Avengers 2 on the slate:

Iron Man 3
Captain America 2
Thor 2
FYI, some of us and the NeedCoffee kids discussed this and the Avengers film on the upcoming weekly podcast, Weekend Justice which should debut on 5/11

I don't know how accurate this is, but according to this article:  http://io9.com/5845359/marvels-next-5-movies-after-the-avengers-could-include-some-weird-surprises

We are getting a Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man (Pym?) or Irdeemable, and an Inhumans movie as well.

This pisses me off. Warner Brothers pisses me off. I want a good DC movie, for Jimmy Olsen's sake! Even though I am a comic book fan I really could care less about so many Marvel movies. I'll watch them, of course, but I want more DC movies, excluding Superman and Batman. Despite it being a rather boring movie, I would really like to see a good Green Lantern sequel with Sinestro getting the yellow ring. I want a good Flash movie. I would also love to see an Adam Strange or Jack Knight Starman movie.
I realize I am asking for a lot but I can still ask and hope.

I know what you mean. Marvel is doing an amazing job marketing their products through Hollywood; both on the big screen with movies and the small with good animated shows. I'm impressed with them....but part of me cringes at how badly they're pwning DC.

DC's been putting out some really good animated movies (i.e. the 2009 Wonder Woman and Green Lantern: First Flight).  I haven't seen anything of this quality by Marvel.  It's like they are deciding to tackle different markets, although the big bucks are going to be made through the big screen movies.

True. I was even enjoying Batman: The Brave and the Bold and am currently really enjoying Young Justice. DC seems to be knocking it out of the park with their animated stories. I just want something on the big screen, non-animated, now.

It's not as surprising as you might think. Marvel owns the rights to
those, as opposed to Spidye, X-Men, & FF.

And the ending of Avengers set up a Guardians movie pretty darned
well, I'd say.

I'm sure Dan Abnett is available to write it.

They supposedly left Pym out of the Avengers movie so as not to
possibly mess up an Ant-Man movie...

What are you talking about, Van?  Ant-Man was in Avengers.  Honest!  He's there, you just have to reeeaally squint in order to see him. ;)

Hey Van,

" And the ending of Avengers set up a Guardians movie pretty darned
well, I'd say. "

How does the ending setup Guardians? I've never read Guardians of the Galaxy so I'm interested in any story lines you are thinking of.

The most recent incarnation of the Guardians fought both Thanos and
Annihilus and his "Annihilation Wave."

There's been some speculation that, officially or only in Joss's head,
the aliens represented part of the Annihilation Wave, and the "Other"
was Annihilus himself. Whether official or not, they definitely served
that purpose.

The Guardians also have recently included both Drax the Destroyer and
Adam Warlock as members, and they are two of Thanos's three main
enemies. (The 3rd being Mar-Vell.)

Both Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest are great stories.  They are collected in several volumes apiece.

Annihilation features the rise of Nova to the "top space hero" stance, and features the Annihilation Wave and Annihilus as Van described.  It is collected in three volumes, which include the prologue minis, the main story, and the epilogue.  The main story itself is collected in Volume 3, but I recommend the entire series.

Annihilation Conquest features a lot of the characters who go on to form the latest version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and features a classic Avengers badguy as the big bad.  Conquest has been collected in two volumes, again featuring the prologues and the main series.  The actual series is collected in Volume 2.

After Annihilation, Nova got his own solo series, all of which is collected I think.  Following Conquest, the Guardians of the Galaxy got their own series as well, which is also available in trades.

After Conquest, there was an event called War of Kings, which continues the story and spins it in new directions, which continues into the Realm of Kings, the Thanos Imperative, and Annihilators series.  It's one grand big space opera.

Personally, I would recommend getting the three volumes of Annihilation and starting there.  Kieth Giffen writes the majority of the event, with Dan Abbnett & Andy Lanning, Simon Furman, and Javier Grillo-Marxuach contributing as well.  You really don't need to know anything going in to that story and it's just a hell of a ride.  It was published at the same time as Marvel's Civil War, and it is vastly superior.

I appreciate Luke laying out the collected volumes there.

I would only take issue with one thing he said, from a personal
standpoint:

I agree that the second ANNIHILATION story, Conquest, is fantastic.
One of my favorite Marvel stories ever--I own it in deluxe hardcover.
It was written (as we're the NOVA and GUARDIANS series) by Abnett and
Lanning.

The first ANNIHILATION event, on the other hand, was written by
Giffen, and... I know that many fans consider it terrific... But,
honestly, I found it and the four or five ancillary minis (such as
Silver Surfer and Ronan) to be as dull as dirt. Just awfully, woefully
dull.

The Surfer's series in particular was like watching cosmic grass grow.
