Most of those are hilarious, but I do have to offer a defense for the serial connection cable.

While 99.44% of consumer hardware has left serial communication to the point which I refer to as "hallowed antiquity," it is still somehwhat commonplace in industrial use.  PLCs, for instance, very commonly connect to laptops and handhelds via serial port.  This is due to several factors, not the least of which is legacy PLCs still operating in the field from when this technology was commonplace.  Wireless has started to show up, but operators are trained and used to using serial so you still see a lot of it in the field.  To wit; I am working on a project with a PLC5 right now which requires the use of a serial cable.

The typewriter though?  All I can think of is the market of hipster writers who claim that they "write better" on a typewriter rather than a computer. :P

I have several serial cables for ham radio use too. It's nowhere near as easy to hack your own circuitry with USB.

Typewriters are still necessary when dealing with agencies or businesses that require you to use fill in forms, especially NCR forms. Why they can't update to electronic versions is ridiculous, but it's hard to convince some people of that. Kind of like convincing those same people that fax is NOT some kind of superior fraud proof technology.

I suppose I can understand that, to an extent: handwriting is slow, typing is faster, and a computer offers so many opportunities for distraction. But there are digital word processors out there that would do the same, for far less that the model they're showing.

And as for industries lagging behind in tech, one of our big presses requires a 1MB 3.5 disk. It takes several years for it to go through a box of 10, but reordering is becoming tougher and the press won't run without it. (Granted, many think offset presses are near-obsolete, too.)
