In Tasker 4.4, when I swipe up from the home button to launch Google Now. it now asks me what default app I want to use. One of the choices is now Tasker! I'm excited to see this feature but it currently does nothing. I searched through the app settings. Look at your change log and can't find any documentation about this feature. Pent, could you enlighten us all?

Make a profile with context event > UI > assistance request. Then you can link it to a task to do whatever you want.

Here's a real quick, very basic project that can demonstrate how to setup your own swipe to launch area using tasker itself...

I don't know what you uploaded Brandon, but I don't think you're talking about what we are. You have no profiles in your project and I really don't understand your structure of tasks...

We're talking about swiping up from the home button and typically launching Google Now but instead using Tasker.

Matt R, when you do that you have to choose an app to link. I tried "Google" aka Google Search but it didn't work. What app do you need to select?

*EDIT* Figured it out. You don't need to select any app, then it works. Cool. Was there any mention or documentation about this from Pent. Seems like it came out of nowhere...

Just test the task with the icon in it, there's only one task with an icon. No profiles because it's very basic, no profiles necessary.

Correct, while there is no way to position the element directly over the home button... it can be placed directly adjacent to it and so 'simulate' the same basic affect.

It does obstruct press recognition directly below it though.

I don't want to take over the thread here, but Saad asked about implementing swipe recognition... I'm simply stating 'swipe recognition' itself is possible in tasker. The exact 'swipe recognition' possible however does divert from the OP.

The project when tested from the task with the icon in it displays two scenes, one overlay and one activity. The actions then manage the activity between scenes. The end result, is the user sets up a swipe recognized launch area (where actions can be substituted in 'Swipe Launch' task). I'll agree it is a quick and messy menu, but it's a simple proof-of-concept.

That's all.

(To clear the element displayed open scene 'Swipe Element' and it will be destroyed)

I tried running your task with the icon but couldn't get it to work. But I'm sure the problem is my tablet. Regardless, assuming your project worked in a similar fashion, it looks like Tasker 4.4 makes your project obsolete. Tasker now has native access to the swipe up gesture from the home button. Matt R basically answered the original question and Saad can do it too (though I don't know how Samsung handles the swipe up gesture since it has a physical button. But the principle is the same, hijack the trigger. In my case it's a swipe up, in Saad's its.... [fill in the blank, button long press?]).

This may be pretty simple to some or most of you but for anyone else who doesn't yet know how to do it... To make use of Tasker for pulling up Google now just:

Create a profile with context: Event > UI > Assistance Request (do not choose a specific app).
For the task, choose whatever you want. Open Google Search, open voice search, run a custom task etc.
Now run the trigger you normally would to open Google Now (ie swipe up from home) and you'll be asked to pick the default app to use.
Select Tasker and you're done!

Big Thanks to Matt R for helping me figure this out. Again... not sure why this wasn't documented. If I missed it, my mistake.

Thanks for posting your results on implementing the newest method.

As a side note, I was wondering if something in the update conflicted with the project and after testing I didn't find any issues... I wonder if I left something out that is still in another project or something.

I downloaded your XML directly into my phone, but its not showing in imports in tasker, not even profiles and tasks.
Swipe feature on my Note 3 brings social feeds, it doesn't brings google now, and i also don't know how this feature works.
can you give me a better guide please.

Sure Saad,

It's a project. So you'll need to create a tab for it (ideally) and press the project tab, then select import.

... I'm curious if it works for you or not.

Just note, this project allows the user to see how it's possible to setup a swipe area to launch specific actions in tasker. The OP was stating the 'swipe to launch action' available on some devices by pressing the home icon and dragging up, for others it's simply pressing and holding the home icon. When this is done correctly the user should be prompted by a menu containing which app(s) handle the event.

This project does not do that.

This project displays a simple swipe element in a user specified area, that's all.

The help text for the event says:

"The user has just requested assistance within the specified app.\n\nOn standard Android devices, this occurs when the user strokes up through the bottom middle of the display.

Some ROMs do not support specification of an App."

I wasn't sure how to document it at the point where the user notices the Tasker icon, but I guess I can flash something up
when no event has been configured.

How do I re-enable home swipe up to google now after I selected Tasker? I'm using htc one.

Something like this:

State: Variable Value [ %WIN ~ *Home* ]
Event: Assistance Request [ App:* ]
Enter:
A1: Launch App [ App:Google Data: Exclude From Recent Apps:Off ]

Pent, my hangups were two fold. First I didn't know that the swipe up gesture was called "Assistance Request" Which explains why I didn't see it announced in the change log or found documentation on it, It was looking me in the face but by a term I didn't know. My bad...

My second hangup was figuring out how to make it work, but Matt R helped me out with that.

Mark,

If by your question you mean, how do you get the pop screen "Complete Action Using" and then select Google as the default do this:

Go into your Android settings.
Go into apps.
Find Tasker (or whatever app currently is the default app for the swipe action, aka "Assistance Request")
Tap "Clear Defaults"
Now when you swipe up from home you'll be prompted to select Google rather than Tasker.

Hope that helps.

Saad,

I see you started another thread looking for help on this issue. You said that swiping up still causes your social default app to launch. As I've learned, this swipe is referred to as "Assistance Request." In order to utilize Tasker to use this swipe you must first clear the defaults of your social app. See this link for instruction. https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tasker/sayWtSzcFDU/ASCKk4vpiFYJ  After doing so, you can then proceed to use Tasker for "Assistance Request" Link How-To here: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tasker/sayWtSzcFDU/FuYbTNFcDtkJ

Saad, the links are showing you the same thread because I linked them all to the same thread. All the answers to your issue are within this single topic. So yes, you're seeing correctly.

You said you cleared My Magazine's cache and data but that's not what the instructions stated. Check it out again: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/tasker/sayWtSzcFDU/ASCKk4vpiFYJ  "clear defaults"

All what i can think about this is, that Kill My Magazine when its launched and launch another task from tasker, but this ruins the function of Assistant Request yeah?
