hi all,

i need to get some feed back in regards to filament,

i have a supplier that can produce filament in the 1.75mm and 3mm but from virgin granule not the recycled stuff the Chinese use,
it comes with a guarantee that it is consistently round, but also throughly dried out, the downside is that the cost on it s about $50 a kilo and it comes as 2kg reels,

anyone got any thoughts?
if it were made availble would people be prepared to pay $50/kg

I doubt anyone would be willing to pay that much.

If it is good quality plastic, I would happily pay that.

How much is the minimum quantity required?

at the moment they are looking at 20kg but I'm going to have a nice stock of the stuff here

if it's viable for me to use for the parts i do, then i'll be able to sell off 1 and 2 kg spools, and the minimum order qty isn't really a problem, delivery won't be a problem as it gives me and excuse to join the brisbane space and get into the city every week :) i live out near toowoomba

the pp3dp plastic is more than that (I have them for $50/roll if anyone is interested) and is well worth the money.

The only downside I see is that there's a risk, almost everyone says their plastic is good and virgin but I've not seen it except in the pp3dp and stratasys plastics [both which you have to pay a premium].

judging by the 3mm stuff i've got and the way it want through my wades extruder i would say it's on par with it,if not exactly the same,
hopefully i can get the price down enough so it's a little more economically practical

What is the melting point? I have found that even the colored filament from pp3dp has a melting point lower than the natural color. This makes removing rafts difficult and prints higher then 0.25 very droopy. I will gladly pay $50 for colored filament that has similar properties as the natural.

i think it it's 240, but its more about the grade, they can formulate it so the melting point is consistent between the natural the colored, i'm waiting for a datasheet on it so i'll have that information soon

Hi Adriaan,

pp3dp do not sell coloured filament.  Are you talking about the stuff from Bruce?

PS : Do you have the "AUS" version of the Up! software?  Buzz me via E-mail...

Hey guys,

FYI Vik sells ABS for about $50 per reel.

http://diamondage.co.nz/?wpsc_product_category=abs

Also if you check the HSBNE list we have sources to get it for as low
as $19 a kg if you are willing to buy bulk.

Lemming.
