Hello, I am trying to create an article for Spyder on Wikipedia, and
one thing I'd like to know is what license the logo falls under. I
uploaded the logo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spyder_logo.png),
but it will be deleted if the article it is used in is not approved/
created since the logo is currently marked as non-free:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Spyder_(software)

In turn, that article is pending deletion because I don't have enough
info to defend it's notability. Anyone here care to improve the
article so it will be approved? These Wikipedia editors are much
pickier than when I contributed some years ago.

Related to the topic of notability of software projects, here is the
essay that "provide[s] guidance for deciding when a topic warrants a
page of its own."

Is there a deadline connected to this deletion phase? I will have a look
at expanding the article. Not sure when though, hopefully before the end
of the month...

I can't understand why wikipedia can have a host of other ide's documented and object to having one page for spyder:

We just need to add more facts to proposed Spyder page to make it approved and then revert commit 21:41, 4 January 2012 Tedickey from this list. But I agree - comparison should include all open source editors regardless of notable features. Unique license or language are already notable things for choosing one.

The logo falls under a very permissive license:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this page, I really appreciate it!

I took a look at the submission. They seem very hard to convince that this page is legitimate... I think that it's quite well documented, clear and with good references... I don't understand.

I've updated logo and dispute history. It just needs a few references to resubmit.

I've just found another review - http://fedora.cz/seznameni-s-python-ide-spyder/

In the meantime, I've started processing this task:
http://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/issues/detail?id=981

BTW, when you look at those wiki pages:
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stani%27s_Python_Editor
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PyScripter
...you'll see that they have absolutely no real external references,
so I'm beginning to think that our reviewers are a bit harsh with our
submission!

Could this be an argument to push our submission?

Yes. I think so. Even if it will result in big cleansing of Wikipedia
for Python editors, at least everybody in Python community will
receive a signal. However, there should be somebody else to raise the
argument as I've already raised a similar one in the past, after which
editors just stacked some links for the editors in question.

Great news, Spyder has now its Wikipedia page here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyder_(software)

Thanks for your work, Anatoly.

I almost gave up on Wikipedia. Definitely good news to start the week with. =)

P.S. While I was adding last edit bits to new Spyder's page, somebody
have added Spyder to Python IDE comparison table at the same time!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_integrated_development_environments_for_Python_programming_language#Python
I'd say this was even more awesome. Thanks guys. ;)

This reminds me that spyder and python(x,y) are also listed on this page http://www.scipy.org/Topical_Software. I think I added them some time ago, feel free to update/modify the descriptions as appropriate.
