Hello everyone, i see this group is a little quiet now.. i hope people are still on here or check now and again, i'm looking to beef up the security for home storage of bikes yet when looking i've found this to be rather expesive, does anyone have or been through this and have more suitable options at a reasonable price  ?..

by this i mean i've been quoted around £1k just to lock up the bikes in a secure state and i think that's a little (ok a lot) on the high side !.

this was in the form of  :-
2x 2m high tensile trated chains (not sure on thickness can't remember)
2 x shakles un cutable with bolt croppers
3 x secure padlocks.

yes i think it's cheaper to fit an alarm, but htese days an alarm going off no one seems to take any notice so not really secure i beleive.

look forward to hearing options and costs (if possible)

regards,
rhino.

Hi Rhino,

I recently bought an IP cam, a Wifi device for something like £35. The only problem with it is that it is a bit of an issue to set up, but for a techy like you, it shouldn’t be an issue. Once it’s set up it monitors your shed, room, house, or whatever you want monitoring. Obviously your wifi would need to reach the shed. This one is not waterproof. It can be configured to send you an email containing a snap-shot of whatever it sees if it detects movement. It can also allow you to view the room from wherever you are through your browser. It also has infra-red capability, which means that it sees in the dark. It even has a mic and a speaker, and can also be moved remotely just using a web-browser. Pretty impressive functionality for £35! Here’s the link to the one I’ve got:

I hope that helps. Happy to accept a few pints in return for your £965 saving!

Cheers,

Bill

HI Bill,
looks interesting, so it has a feature to capture movement and send you an email on that including a snap shot ?, or doe sit have to have a server / save space area to upload images to ?..

certainly interesting to review more i think and might be a way to capture potential buglers !.

Hi Rhino,

It can certainly send you an email which contains 5 captured still images without the need for a server. It can also send images (and possibly videos?) to an FTP server if that’s what you want. I’ve noticed that when I’m connected to it through a browser, it also saves video on my hard disks.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Bill
