Hi
I have a MacBookPro 17" still under warranty (just!) that has a dodgy trackpad.
I went to the Apple store in Brighton, and I was (informally) quoted a turnaround of 7 days for the repair.
I used the computer every day for work, do that won't work for me.
So is there somewhere I can take it for a within warranty repair in Sussex, where they can do it on the spot?
Thanks in advance,
Will

    THanks! That works!

I hope they smooth out the other bug though. Technically, I was doing it the right way as I was invoking the edit option!

Hi Will

Any authorised repair centre will take a few days as they have to order the part in on a case by case basis.

I've sometimes found the applestore to fix things faster than their projected turnaround but always found that Robert Harding (01273 728827) gives a quicker estimate.

There's usually more chance of a quicker repair if you go in first thing in the morning so the technician can place the order nice and early.

Regards

Sam

I suggest you buy a magic trackpad, then ask for the repair and take the machine home. You can take the machine in again when they have the part. That usually works.

I find that using external keyboard, trackpad, mouse etc is very good when at a desk. I put my MBP on a stand to allow me better viewing posture, and operate from the external input devices.

At the risk of sounding complacent, all computers are likely to have a problem of one kind or other at some time, so if a computer is mission critical to your work, shouldn't we have a strategy for when it happens.
This might include a spare second-hand machine with access to data on an external disk or maybe the Cloud.

A strategy I use is to have a cloned backup of my machine on an external disc, quite separate from any time machine backup. I can then start up from this external disc on any machine that will run the OS I'm running.

It's simple, and it has saved me on several occasions.

When the other machine is back from hospital, I erase the disc and do a full back up from my external disc.

Is it the trackpad or the button that's dodgy. If it's the button, it could be a slightly swollen battery so a replacement top case won't fix it but a replacement battery will. Just a thought, this was the case with my mother-in-law's unibody 17".

Yes it is the button, so you could well have a point. I can still use it ok, it just does the odd dodgy click.
I'll give the contacts recommenced a try when i get some time.
Thanks for the suggestions re mission criticality, I've got an (as yet untested) strategy in place that uses a credit card, the apple shop and a backup! :)
I don't want to spare lie about which is costing me money and depreciating.
Thanks
Will
