Has anyone taken apart an iPhone 4 before?

My Home button has become quite 'sticky' and I wonder if it's full of lint from my pocket?

Is it worth me trying to take it apart and clean it? Has anyone else done it? Better still, has anyone else done it who is local to Haywards Heath and fancies doing it again?!?!

Just don't want to brick the thing just because it looks straightforward on a YouTube vid!

Oh, and congrats to RealMac software based in Brighton (are they SMUGers?) and the imminent release of Clear 2 and Clear Mac... looks great!

I replace smashed iPhone 4 screens all the time and it's generally an easy job, just be careful with making sure each screw goes back in the right place.

The home button itself is actually just a bit of plastic which pushes down onto a hardware button that's underneath the front screen. It could either be liquid residue making the plastic button stick, or the hardware button itself needing replacement.

thanks Sam!

will it be obvious if it's a new button needed, and where's the best place to source one?

Hi Adam

Installation's relatively simple, just time consuming.

Is it something you do and are you ever this way? It's just the local repair shop here wants quite a price which feels a lot of labour charge given the price of the part. It's not desperate as it still works temperamentally, but I'd rather pay you something or worst case... Have a go myself!
