General questions should be asked on StackOverflow. This should be the default choice for questions that likely have a definitive answer.

Focuses on development of sbt and sbt plugins: discussions of features, bugs, and changes to sbt.

IRC (#sbt)

General questions, discussions, etc...

Concretely, this list will become read-only in 1 month. If you have open threads that fall under the topic of [sbt-dev], please repost them there. Unanswered questions should go to StackOverflow. If unsure, just bump your thread on this mailing list.

The documentation will be updated shortly (the CI job to refresh docs is currently running). I will probably try to subscribe this list to [sbt-dev] to increase awareness of it.

I'm sad to see this list go, and wanted to say thanks for the help it has provided over the years.

I remember the days when you started SBT as a side project, and the community was largely using maven and - shudder - ant. At the time, it seemed like a hobby project that would never take off - how wrong we onlookers were. This list has always been a constant reminder to me how powerful SBT has become (what with most problems being solvable with one liners).

The community owes you a heavy debt for your on-going support and the effort you have poured into helping others free of charge on this list. Next time we catch up in person, I shall buy you a beer good sir!

I recall my experience of sbt consisting of:
- wondering who is this Mark person and is he a real programmer?
- not looking at it or trying it, assuming something called "simple
build tool" is probably too simple for my hairy project

You're welcome and thanks for the kind words. The help isn't going away, though- it is just moving over to StackOverflow where there are a lot people (like Seth!) giving good answers. There is also [sbt-dev] for comments, suggestions, and general development discussions.
