Dear all,

I have been in contact with Shuva (401A) back in Nepal 2 weeks ago. If you see the email trail you will be able to see a need to provide support to Rabilal's son. There have been few donors towards his education and I feel that we from UK should do something towards it. I wonder if you guys agree of contributing £100 towards this cause. My sincere plea to all.

Kind regards,

Ratna

Raju, I can definitely bring in Rabi Lal's son as an intern in Republica for sure.

But I'm leaving for China tomorrow night for ten days. Will be back on November 12. I can meet him right after Tihar..i.e. Nov 16.

And for Jung Bahadur, i'm ready to contribute and lets try bring him here in Kathmandu. Shuva, please lets get together soon to do the needful.

Kase: Do you think you will be able to work out an intern position in your paper for Rabi Lal's son if he is willing to take it? As I mentioned in my earlier email, I am planning on collecting additional funds for Rabi Lal from fellow Sebsers in the US and Canada. If this happens, we might be able to set aside more funds for Jung Bahadur. If you can offer an intern position to Rabi's son, then we will have solid ground to justify our pursuit for additional funds to help Rabi Lal educate his daughters. Let me know asap. Raju

Dear Raju

He did ask specifically for help. His son completed 10+2 but could not go further after being unable to pay Rs. 17000 still pending with the Milestone College he studied. He wants to study journalism, a good idea, and he seemed quite smart and very much like little Rabi we met.

Rabi also is seeking education support for youngest 2 (out of 5) daughters. When I mentioned that the government is allocating a lot of resources for Chepang empowerment and support, they were skeptical and said they have access to none, and it showed on his face.

The reason I did not write this earlier was that it is one thing to feel that we should help, but we are organized enough and our thoughts simply fade away with time. So I have promised him nothing at this stage.

In case any of you wish to contact him, his contact details are:

Rabi Lal Praja
His son, Napolean Chepang 9841704849.

Thanks Raju for noting this meeting !

Dear Budhas

It was a great moment for me, on 9th October, to meet Rabilal Praja since he left school in 7th grade. Somehow, I managed to bring him and his son to my office on Tuesday and have a very warm and nostalgic conversation. He did not remember much, but took the names of Mahendra Chhetri, Unnati, Mobi Lochan and Himansu (both of 5th batch) as those he could remember. He was very thin, and obviously in difficult economic situation. We have agreed that we shall meet regularly when he visits his son who is hoping to continue his bachelor degrees in Kathmandu.

Dear friends,

I fully agree with Ratna.  Although not aware of the exact state of our SEBS UK fund, I believe that we can at least contribute £100.00 for this extremely urgent cause.

I look forward to your positive support.

Dear Ladies & Gents,

I am sorry if I understood the message differently, but I was in the impression that this £100 (suggested by Ratna) was to be sent from SEBs Fund.  As such, my assumption was, the appropriate committee members would have actioned accordingly as per Ratna's most sensible advice; but it appears no action or feedback has been seen yet as to what the situation is, i.e. whether we have no funds left, or, the message has not been understood enough.  If we were meant to chip in individually to raise this £100, then my apologies for being the one who has misunderstood the message.  But please let's do away with this swiftly.

My apologies again, for being one of the more laid-back members of the UK exBudhas with no record of attendance on any gatherings and failing to keep up with the subscriptions.  You can kick my butt for this (I very well deserve it!); but first, lets do something to help Rabilal educate his son.  I can very well understand Ratna's frustration as things are not moving as quickly as they should.

Whoever is responsible for the books, grateful if our sort-code and account number be posted on our group-box (once again).  I will deposit all my dues and contribution towards Rabilal.

Thank you, and, Happy Tihar!

I am with you on this. SEBS can definitely afford to contribute £100 towards this cause.

The other idea raised by another fellow SEBSer is why not have another fund raising incentive. Even if we go for £10/per person, it will only take 10 pledges to reach this target. If we go with this approach then I am confident we can surpass this target and contribute lot more than £100. I
personally like this idea and am happy to contribute minimum £10 towards this fund. I therefore request all the fellow UK SEBSers to add your name to the list below if you like this incentive and would like to contribute a minimum £10 towards this great cause

1. Nirmal Chaulagain (£10 minimum)

Lets give it till the end of the week and reassess our position. My view is that we should definitely contrbute at least £100, one way or the other.

Nirmal,

Few SEBERS-UK have come forward to contribute which is overwhelming and thank you for agreeing with my proposal.
As the President not around in the UK and you being the secretary I feel that you have started a good lead on this event and I thank you personally.

4th batch is doing something in Nepal and US and asking 5th batch as well since Rabilal started with 4th and ended up with 5th, however I am not targeting only these batches as we in the UK the member is very small so we should come together in any eventualities.

I was asking £100 from our fund and if all members are willing to contribute and if we raise more then this amount then we can save this £100 for future eventualities or if you want to add on to the total pledges then that is also fine.

Please can you now send the bank account details and can I ask all of you to contribute or donate what ever is appropriate please?
I would like to make the collection be send to Nepal by first week December which should not be a problem if we all act now.

My earnest plea, £10 will not make you poor but it may give someone a better opportunity in his future.

Kind regards,

Ratna

Dear All,
Please find below the bank details for SEBS:
A/c number: 67231225
Sort code: 60-02-35
Natwest Bank
The fund raising initiative for 'Rabilal Praja' fund has kicked off well as we seem to have pledges exceeding the intially proposed contribution within a day day floating the idea.  Please find below details of pledges so far:
Amount (GBP)
1 Nirmal Chaulagain 10
2 Laxman Pun 30
3 Jaindra Bikram  50
4 Ratna Pun                                 ?
5 Maita Limbu ?
6 Artiom Uprety ?
7 Bishnu Pariyar ?
I am sure there will be many more names to be added to the list above and we should be able to raise a substantial sum to towards this highly commendable intiative.

Ratna dai,

In terms of transferring the money, last time we did it for Reshadai fund, we used Yogendai's money transfer service, where by we paid a cheque to his company's account which was eventuially paid into SEBS nepal account. That way we have an audit trail for future records. Shall we do the same this in this instance as well-  unless other people have other ideas. I am, however, going to be out of country from 20 November till the 9th of December. Currenly the only method of drawing money out of the SEBSUK account is through cheque payment which requires approval of 2 out of 3 authorised signatories (Currently: myself, Ganesh Dai and Sanjay Das dai). With Sanjay Das dai  in Dubai and me being out of country, it might be difficult to organize the cheque payment in the first week of December that you are proposing. Can we aim it for 2nd/3rd week in December please? That would give me few days to confirm the total amount of contributions received, send the cheque to Ganesh dai for a second signature and then to who ever you propose to transfer the money to Nepal.

The other option is to send the contribution directly to your account  in the UK and transfer the money to Nepal from there? That way we might be able to send the money across earlier without going through all the hassel outlined above. We can keep track of the list of contributors here for record purposes. The eveidence of money transfered can be send to me for SEBS UK's file.

 Kind regards

Nirmal

Why not use Artus Remit this time? We do account deposit as well and no charge to any transaction above £300. £3 charge applies below that amount.

Let me take a chance to serve SEBS this time.

We deliver......

Nirmal Bhai,

Many thank you for the update and I can see it is working and the festive time of Tihar may bring even more kind hearted SEBERS.
Rather than losing in bating why not start by donating first then going to JUWA?

I am seeking advice from Nepal where is the best to transfer the money to. Please be patient until I get the firm answer from the POC in Nepal.

How we transfer here in the UK?

1. It would be the best to transfer in our fund account here in the UK however I see some difficulties but it is doable and good for the audit purpose, that is why we have open up our account. PREFERRED OPTION.

2. Suggested by Nirmal in my account - Not a really good idea. People need to trust me and as money involved even a penny may make a seed of dispute in the future. From my past experience this option is not a good idea. If you all insist due to current situation of the 3 authorised guys then I can do that and also I have free time as well but as I said earlier it's not a good idea.

3. Suggested by Sam Karki Bhai - I am not really sure about this, your thoughts please?

Time line - This was my gestimate from the finger in the wind and can be altered to your suitability 3/4 week in Dec 12.

Lets see other reactions and will decide the majority's choice.

With kind regards,

Ratna Dai,

Given that people have already started contributing through SEBS account lets go with this option and do the transfer around third week in December. So people, please use SEBSUK account for your contributions and let me know so that I can keep track of it.

Re your third question, I am happy to go with 'Artus Remit, owned by our very own Sam karki (honorary member -007B) who is actively involved in SEBS activities and a regular contributor as well. Sam Karki has kindly offered to waive the £3 charge in the event the total amount is less than £300  and pledged £10 from his company. So here is the update list:

Amount (GBP)
1 Nirmal Chaulagain 10
2 Laxman Pun 30
3 Jaindra Bikram  50
4 Ratna Pun 10?
5 Maita Limbu 15

Like Maita Dai said. I also deserve a kick in the backside.  I have been laid back and couldn't make it to any of the gatherings.

Nirmal bhai,
I have made £25 to SEBS account.

Ratna Dai,
If it is urgent for Rabilal one of us can make payment to SEBS account in Nepal and SEBS UK can re-pay it afterwards (to the individual concerned).

Hello all,

As previously worked together 100C uk decided to contribute collectively. Majority are still students so may take little while to get everyone connected.

Just finished worshipping laxmi mata, lets see how much I have been credited into my account then will get in touch very soon.

In the mean time can I suggest 2 thing here;

1) shall we let Shyam Karki dai's new money transfer venture to do the transaction this time? He is not sebser but worth more than real. attending agm, helping hands at any time and fund contributor too. Why not encourage to person  as him and thank him for his contribution?

2) we just think this is the only time to support one of our members. we have raised more than what initially proposed by ratna dai (£100.00) and previously we did similar to Resham dai's fund (obviously case is different). Can we propose new amount on this occasion and keep some with us so in future if some one is in need can get immediately and let the fund keep coming slowly from all of kind hearted people! This is just a thought not that I am greedy.

PS; pls donate as much as you can your "Jitauri" (winning money) from card (Tass) game. Laxmi mata will look after you :)

Shubha dipaawali ko shubhakamanaa to all.

Dear Harit,

Your point 1. Repeated!! We already decided this that we will send the amount through Sam long ago.

Point 2. For the same idea we decided long long ago to contribute £5 a month but very few did the DD n the fund did not grow as much as we have hoped. That is why we have to take this course of action.

Whatever is raised I would like to send all to Rabilal son's education. My initial purpose of £100 was from the fund of we have any. Since more generous SEBERs are coming forward and contribution being more than expected it should all go to him and for future unfortunate events we may have to do the same.

Thank you for your suggestion though. I hope you have won some Laxmi n will be contributing to this cause.

Happy Bhai Tika.

Kind regards,

Ratna

Dear SEBSers,
I am writing to you to let you know that MR P J WAKEMAN, the first Headmaster (1972-1977) has moved out of Clare Park Care. Unfortunately, I do not know where he is at present and have been trying to trace him since couple of months. I hope I will get an opportunity to see him soon and would obviously let you know more about him. Please see an email shown below received from his niece today.

RABILAL PRAJA FUND: This is an urgent call for help. Why wait for individual to donate? Why not use SEBS-UK Association Funds to dispatch the money immediately. I suggest the committee come up with a figure (proposed is £100) and send the amount as soon as possible.

SEBS GET TOGETHER-2013: It's high time we do one. Can I propose the committee that we hold one on Sat 24 Aug 2013 (this weekend falls in the Summer Bank Holiday period):

-Sat 24 Aug: meet in the morning (for breakfast). Venue to be confirmed. One night overnight stay.
-Sun 25 Aug: disperse in the afternoon (after breakfast).
-Mon 26 Aug: Summer Bank Holiday.

I personally request all SEBSers to actively look for a suitable venue, somewhere we can camp or has accommodation facilities, cook food (or can use one of our boys Catering Service), parking facilities, somewhere children can freely play .... Just a thought! Can any Serviceman help with the venue? Do any one have any place in their mind? Can you please let me know and I shall make enquirers. Let's get the ball rolling now so that people can start making their plans on time and we end up with maximum attendance.

Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous Tihar!
Best wishes

I am, however, going to be out of country from 20 November till the 9th of December. Currenly the only method of drawing money out of the SEBSUK account is through cheque payment which requires approval of 2 out of 3 authorised signatories (Currently: myself, Ganesh Dai and Sanjay Das dai). With Sanjay Das dai  in Dubai and me being out of country, it might be difficult to organize the cheque payment in the first week of December that you are proposing. Can we aim it for 2nd/3rd week in December please? That would give me few days to confirm the total amount of contributions received,

The eveidence of money transfered can be send to me for SEBS UK's file.

Happy Tihar to all.

Sorry for the late response, but better late than never.

I’d like to put my name forward as well for the contribution for this very good cause.

Nirmal dai could you please forward me the bank details so that i can do the transfer.

I like Yogendra dai’s idea of using his fund in Nepal, perhaps in future in urgency we could use his help and pay him using the collection over here.

Thanks a lot everyone and lets keep this rolling.

More in next email

Khulal take up Budhanilkantha reins

KATHMANDU, DEC 01 - With Keshar Bahadur Khulal taking the helm of Bhudhanilkantha School on Friday, the curtain finally fell on 17-year-long controversial tenure of the school's former principal, Narayan Sharma.
The Bhudhanilkantha School Management Committee, led by Education Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha, elevated vice-principal Khulal to principal for the next five years in line with the recommendation of a three-member selection committee led by Prof Suresh Raj Sharma.
“Khulal is a senior teacher of the school and he knows how to run the school,” said Shrestha. Along with Khulal, the committee had recommended Narayan and Bal Krishna Sharma for the post, eyed by 15 candidates.
Earlier, former Principal Shrama had faced a string of corruption charges, leading to the formation of a four-member probe committee led by Shyam Prasad Khanal, joint-secretary at the National Vigilance Center. A 163-page chargesheet prepared by the committee had discovered over a dozen of irregularities, including misuse of scholarship quotas, corruption in building construction and furniture purchase, a huge amount of influence in recruiting staff and teachers and irregularity in staff promotion. The team had concluded that Sharma misappropriated the pension fund too. He was also found to be admitting students irregularly.
Following the report, the Prime Minister's Office had asked the ministry to take action against Sharma when Secretary Shrestha himself was the NVC chief. But so far nothing has happened. “Our investigation is still on,” said Shrestha.
Despite directives from the parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and International Relations to announce an open competition while recruiting the school principal, the then Education Secretary Shankar Pandey, in June last year, had asked Sharma to continue his term.

Dear Sebsers

I think this most be one of the better news we had in long long time on Budhanilkanhta school. It is a proud moment for all alumnis and BNKS families and I am truely excited by this news. May be this is also a right time to bring Sebs-UK back into life and we should start discussing, right away, on how we can help Khulal sir and school to achieve its goal going forward.

Bishnu, I know you are full of ideas. Executive members, lets get together, somewhere, during christmas and lets start discussing our strategies going forward. It seems Sebs-Nepal has not got some decent people running this orginasation and may be we should explore different ways of working with them. Few ideas that I have are:

1) start working again with bnks clubs - social service, red-cross helping them organise some community events
2) Scholarship fund
3) Providing equipment to school - laptops/science lab equipments etc

Regards

Santosh

I will be issuing a cheque for £421 to Artus remit this weekend. With a further £10 top up from Artus remit, we should be able to send £431 to Nepal. Our honorary member (007B) and the owner of Artus remit, Mr Sam Karki will advise us on the exchange rate (obviously  preferential)once he receives the cheque  - hopefully by the end of next week as it requires two signatures.

In the mean time, if anyone else is making any further contribution to this cause then please do so by sunday and let me know so that we can transfer the correct amount.

Happy new year!

Kr
