Hello,

Thanks everyone for voting!  The clear winner is 8/26;  this is the only day that everyone can make it.  So, it is set:  the next cooking group will be on 8/26 at 12:30 pm at Melissa's house.

Melissa, I think you are right about the layout of the meals on the onceamonth website.   Another option is to check out epicurious.com and the epicurious app for android and iphones. You can choose several recipes, and then make an aggregated shopping list from it.   It does not scale the recipes up, however.

So, the question becomes, how much do people want to do veggie menu?

Please vote for one of the following:
a) do the mini menu on onceamonth  regardless of meatiness
b) do the veggie option onceamonth and potentiallly create a shopping list
c) epicurious or other websites that create a shopping list, but scale ourselves --which allows us flexibility on food, but a bit more overhead to get things scaled, etc.

Please vote by Friday, July 13th. The default will be to stick with the mini-menus regardless of meatiness, so please vote/let us know if you would like to change.

Thanks, Melissa, for offering to get the big mixing bowls!

Sincerely,
Tina

Aug 26 sounds good, see you all then!

Looking at the once a month mom site, I think I can follow their instructions for using zip list to make a shopping list out of a subset of the recipes.  I'm willing to do that if you guys want to give it a try.  To be honest, the vegetarian recipes are a little out of my cooking comfort zone, but it would be fun to try something new.

Aug 26 is good for me.

I'm hesitant on the epicurious option because it will require us to vote on recipes and create our own menu, which I feel always gets really bogged down at some point.  I'd be happy to go with either onceamonth mom option and just barrel ahead.  I'd prefer vegetarian just because I feel like the cost last time got way out of control, plus the two adult members of our household really need to stop eating large hunks of meat and get in more veggies.  I am far more likely to use the veg things we cook; by the time we did last cooking night, I still had some frozen meat from the previous time in my fridge, and I don't know when the heck I am going to be making all this pork tenderloin (it looks delicious, but we just don't eat that kind of thing very often, much less twice--or possibly four times?--in a two-month period).

Tina, should we look at allrecipes?  Weren't the make ahead mamas going to start creating menus with complete shopping lists and everything already done?  Or am I just imagining that?

I agree with everything, Margaret.  There is so much meat in my freezer right now, it's nuts.  And the recipe picking does seem to be tedious for some reason.  I would almost prefer we just let everyone pick one recipe for each cooking night or something.

Wouldn't we have this same issue with allrecipes if we went that route?  They have menus, but they don't seem to be what we're looking for.

I'm fine with the once a month mom veggie menu- it's a little put of our norm, but we like finding new dishes!
