Dear Sir,
I have compiled the feminine forms of ordinals of the first 10 numbers from various text books and websites. They are given below:
Stems
for Feminine Bases of Ordinals |
आकारान्तः |
ईकारान्तः |
प्रथमा |
|
द्वितीया |
|
तृतीया |
|
चतुर्था |
चतुर्थी |
पञ्चमा |
पञ्चमी |
षष्ठा |
षष्ठी |
सप्तमा |
सप्तमी |
अष्टमा |
अष्टमी |
नवमा |
नवमी |
दशमा |
दशमी |
But I have doubt whether the आकारान्त forms from 4 to 10 (i.e.,चतुर्था, पञ्चमा, षष्ठा, सप्तमा, अष्टमा, नवमा, दशमा) exist or not.
From WHTITENY' Grammar book Page 167: "Of the ordianls, प्रथम( and आद्य), द्वितीय, and तुरीय (with तुर्य) form their feminine आ; all the rest make it in ई."
From शब्दमञ्जरी Page:78
"चतुर्थ-पञ्जमादयः शब्दाः सर्वेऽपि---पुंसि ’राम’ शब्दवत्; स्त्रियां ’नदी’ शब्दवत्; क्लीबे ’फल’ शब्दवत् द्रष्टव्याः॥ "
But some websites on grammar have given the आकारान्त forms also(i.e.,चतुर्था, पञ्चमा, षष्ठा, सप्तमा, अष्टमा, नवमा, दशमा). Here is one of such links:
Could you please shed some light on forms?
Regards
Ramana murthy
