Hi all,

We are starting to organise another code retreat session
(http://coderetreat.com/) that will take place on December the 3rd,
and we are looking for sponsors.

The one we run back in mid September was great fun and people learned
a lot (or so they said... I certainly did!).

The session on the 3rd will be at @amworks again but we are a bit
short of funding right now. The event is free but it's a full day of
coding and we basically need to feed people and keep the caffeine
levels high.
Sponsors can pitch in for 5 minutes at lunch time, and their logos
will be displayed in the slides and posters. So it could be a great
opportunity for companies out there that are hiring to spot the kind
of people that they would really want to hire. After all not everybody
gets up at 7am on a Saturday to spend the day hacking away just for
the sake of learning.

Feel free to contact us through this thread or off-list with any
questions you may have. Off-list you can use josmas...@gmail.com to
reach me.

Looking forward to talking to some of you guys and Thanks in advance!

Guys, a bit more info about the event.

There are 30+ cities so far and we've got a couple of global sponsors
such as ThoughtWorks and Jetbrains. This means that we will have some
swag and other stuff such as Jetbrains licenses to give away on the
day (don't know how many yet!).

Unfortunately they don't cover local expenses (food!) so we still need
some help from local companies.

I want to thank the two guys who have been in touch so far and ask
anyone interested to please contact me or any other of the usual
suspects in this kind of stuff --> Vicky, Andrea, Declan, Jeffrey...

cheers,
José

Hi everyone,

As far as I know I am the lone Derry rubyist. I haven't made it down
to a meetup yet, but I hope to someday. Actually I'm heading down to
Dublin today, with my family and my parents who are visiting from the
US. I know it's a bit off-topic, but I would love to hear your
recommendations for stuff to do and see.

Thanks,

Tim

Being from Belfast, am regularly a tourist in Dublin and these would
probably be my favourites so far.

KIlmainham Jail
National Gallery of Ireland
Guinness Factory tour, gravity bar
Science Gallery
Phoenix Park

L. Mulligan Grocer. They have some great irish dishes and everything
on the menu has a beer and whiskey pairing.
Porterhouse, Bull and Castle. Two bars with a great bear selection.

Interested to hear what else you Dublin folk recommend :)

There's a few of us rubyists now in the north, mostly in Belfast.
Should make a halfway house meet up at some point.

Best,
Dave

I had never heard of L. Mulligan Grocer - thanks to Belfast for that!  It's not much use to me (as I'm veggie) but I know a lot of people would be interested.

To add to the list...

Stephen's Green
Iveagh Gardens
Merrion Square
Temple Bar
Dublin Castle (plus City Hall and Chester Beatty Library)
Christchurch
St. Patrick's Cathedral

I live in Fingal (north County Dublin).  In this area my choices would be:
Ardgillan Castle
Newbridge House and Demesne
Gormanston College (yes, a school but it beautiful grounds and castle)
Stoops (for "victuals" as per L Mulligan) and Joe May's (for "libations") in Skerries

Regards,

Jivan

+1

We should definitely do this. I believe Simon mentioned running a
Belfast Ruby Conference?

Guys, you could run a code retreat in Belfast on the 3rd. drop me a
line off-list (or here) if you think it could work, I'll be happy to
help out.

There's more than 50 cities right now for the 3rd, more info
here(needs update): http://coderetreat.com/global_day.html

We have two sponsors already for Dublin that we will be announcing
shortly. Still need a bit of help though! Please get in touch if you
are interested.

cheers,
José
