Is integration of Robotium and Robotframework tested by some one.
If yes please provide some tips on how to start.

I’m not aware of any Robot Framework interface to Robotium, but if you’re interested in testing Android devices with Robot Framework, check out NativeDriver (http://code.google.com/p/nativedriver/) and the NativeDriver Users group.  NativeDriver is an alternative Open Source test automation solution for Android AND iOS.  I plan to develop a Robot Framework interface for NativeDriver and hope to release it as Open  Source.  We’re in very early stages of development at present so it may be a couple of months before this plan is complete.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Venkatesh,

Yes, we have a Robot Framework interface to NativeDriver, and some updates to ND itself.  This is all working in our labs with our proprietary product.  The architecture of the RF test libraries has been done in such a way that the proprietary parts are isolated from the generic ND parts.  This should enable  me to release the non-proprietary parts as Open Source.  However TI is a big, slow-moving company and my team and I are heavily loaded with product-based automation activities.  Thus I can make no guarantees of how long it might take us to get this Open Source release done.  Sorry, but that’s the reality of the situation.  As a small encouragement I will say that I have successfully released non-proprietary TI code as Open Source in the past, so there is precedent!

Cheers,

Martin

Martin,

Just checking to see if you have made progress on your initiative to  build and RF interface to NativeDriver? Appreciate if you could shed some light on the same.

Thanks

Venkatesh

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the update.Pretty exciting. Good luck with your project and the release to the OS community. Meanwhile, I found your other post on your PoC with the ND and RF remote driver. Will try it out myself. Thanks for the hope you have given me.
Cheers

Hello Venkatesh,
If the requirement is Android Test automation (using a rooted phone), here is the procedure:

1. Setup Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html) on your computer
2. Root your Android Phone. Try (http://androidsu.com/superuser/)
3. Install Droid Explorer (http://de.codeplex.com/releases/view/87215)
4. Connect the Android Phone to computer and open the phone interface using Droid Explorer
5. Use Sikuli (http://sikuli.org/) for automation of this phone interface...

Note:
1. There are many more methods if u want to use ROOTED Android phone.
2. For a NON-ROOTED Android phone, robotium/NativeDriver can be used....

Regards,
Saurabh

Saurabh,
Thanks. That was useful. We are not allowed to root our devices (Corporate policy...rolls eyes :) ) So, will have to slog it out with Native driver

Thanks a lot for your input.

Hello Martin,
I would like to know if you had time to work on a nativedriver library for robot framework ?

I am trying to do mobile automation with Robot Framework and would be very interested in this library.
Thank you very much,

Andréa Perez

No, sorry, we abandoned any Android development so we never completed the nativedriver library.

Cheers,

Martin

There are several new options now. If you search around this group or GitHub. I recall seeing these for example. Some of such are also available in the Python Package Index distro.
