I'd like to make flashcards with formulas using LaTeX. I've fumbled around a bit, but haven't been able to get it to work. What simple but crucial step am I missing?

Hi,

After enabling "LaTeX and MathML Support" in the settings, see the following examples:

If I recall correctly, you need to input the math between "\(    \)".

The "\(    \)" does the trick. Thank you!

Hello, I'm a total noob to this. I'd also like to make formula flashcards, but enclosing the sample code from the linked page in "\(  \)", both with and without the quotes, doesn't  help: nothing renders properly. I've enabled "LaTeX and MathML Support", and am using OSX 10.7.4. I'd really appreciate any advice

Can you post an example of a formula you are trying to enter, but doesn't work? I should be able to tell you if there's something wrong with your syntax.

Hello,
Please find the attached screenshots of what I've entered, and how it appears in the preview. The first is taken from the sample code on the linked page, and the second is my own code, in which I included the quotation marks to make sure that wasn't the problem

Hi, I just tried on Windows and Mac and LaTeX is working in Windows, but not on the Mac. After doing a quick review, it would seem that a specific update in 1.61 (related to relative image and sound paths) caused it to stop working.

I've disabled the relative paths addition for now and built a new binary for you to try:

http://www.repetitionsapp.com/Repetitions-1.61-LaTeX_MathML-Mac_OS_X-x86_64.dmg

You should be able to see formulas now (no quotation marks by the way).

I will have this fixed for the next update. Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention.

Best Regards.

Hi, thank you so much for this! It almost works perfectly: I've had a couple of crashes, but this is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

Hello again, as an update on the fix, I can input latex code and it renders just fine, but I'm experiencing very frequent crashes (roughly every two or three cards). Would posting the error report here help? Thank you again for your help so far.

Hi, can you re-download and try again and let me know if you are still getting crashes (I overwrote the previous file). Thanks.

Hello, and thanks again for all your help. This seems much more stable. I've had a few crashes, but nowhere near the frequency of what I was getting before, and these seem to occur when really code-heavy cards are being converted, and particularly if I try to preview a code-heavy card. It's still a really big improvement, though.

Please let me know if there's anything else that I can tell you that could help you with this project.

Hello, again,
Actually, the more that I've been using the lastest build, the less stable it seems. Usually it takes about 10 seconds for the LaTeX code to be converted, and if it takes any longer than that, the app seems to give up. I thought that the length of time it was taking to convert had something to do with the amount of LaTeX code I'd typed up on the card, but it seems pretty arbitrary. This has been happening on average every four cards or so that I review.

Hi,

The only thing I can think of is to keep in mind is that not all LaTeX features are supported. Repetitions currently uses MathJax, which focuses only on displaying mathematical formulas written in LaTeX and MathML.

For more information on what's supported, visit:

If you could send your sample .srs database to sup...@repetitionsapp.com, I could try on my side to see the crashes for myself.

Best Regards.

The link posted by the Repetitions Support team will redirect to the mathjax homepage. You can find the tex-sample at this link: https://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/test/sample-tex.html
With Windows 7 and Google Chrome, I found if I right-clicked inside the page and chose "View page source", I could copy the syntax between the HTML tags "<p>" and "<\p>" and paste it into a card.

I just downloaded Repetitions 1.824 for Linux and turned on LaTex and MathML support, and equations that once rendered properly are not rendering at all. In fact, cards with equations are showing up completely blank. I know they were formatted properly, as they work in the iPhone app and on my prior install of the desktop Repetitions although I'm not 100% sure if it was a different version since it was on a computer that has since died.

Can you let me know which version of Linux you are using and provide some sample cards with equations for me to try and test on my end?
