First time i've ever used reCaptcha and im having problems getting it
to work.

Page it should be displaying on: http://farmout.org/registration

J2.5 came with the plugin and it's enabled with both keys that i
pulled from the reCaptcha site for the correct domain. reCaptcha is
selected as default in the global configuration. reCaptcha is
selected in the User Manager's option menu.

I've gone through everything I can think, what am I missing? I would
greatly appreciate some help to get this working. I would like to add
to all my sites once I figure it out.

Thanks,
Mike

J2.5 came with the plugin

<script src="http://api.recaptcha.net/js/recaptcha_ajax.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

It would appear that whatever plugin you're using, it's out of date since it's using the depricated URLs.

I suggest you post on the Joomla forums for advice.

I figured it out. I had the component K2 running on my site. K2's
registration overides overides the global config. Once uninstalled,
it worked fine. Luckily i wasnt really using K2, otherwise i'd still
be trying to figure it out.

I am using reCaptcha on a Joomla 2.5.4 website also. Trying to. I obtained the public and private keys and put them in the options for the plugin.

There is an error on the page that says: "Input error: k: Format of site key was invalid " and when I enter the two squiggly words, I get a page with the error: "To use reCAPTCHA you must get an API key from https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/create"  I have even gotten a new set of keys using the URL with and without the www. and always get these two errors.

I am working on a subdomain (prior to moving the subdomain to be the root site). I am using K2 but have put the same keys there, and now have disabled f the use of reCaptcha in K2, and still have the same errors.

Even though the directions say that one reCaptcha set of keys is supposed to work through all domains, could this be the issue and can I expect it to work once the site is moved?

Update: I found a system plugin where I had missed putting in the keys, that got rid of the first error on the contact form, but now I can't get the captcha to validate no matter what I do. Don't know what to try next.

I had to uninstall all K2 components and plugins to get it working
right. Once K2 was gone it worked flawlessly.

You did not have to uninstall K2.
Components > K2 > Parameters > Anti-spam settings > reCaptcha public and private key and enable reCaptcha on registration form.
Worked for me. :)
