Seems too good to be true. Strange description, even beyond caps. Anyone missing an Atlantis?

Maybe it's Max's Poletto's?

$800 for an Atlantis "ready to ride" seems quite a bargain to me. I
don't know Max but if he has a stolen Atlantis, I hope some one
forwarded this to him.

I think the seller is comparing his price to this $2000 Atlantis:

Ah..it's Max's. His replies are bouncing so he asked me to forward:

Hey folks, thanks for your sharp eyes and good memory.

I noticed this ad this morning (I have had a script scraping craigslist and ebay every half hour for the last 14 months). Another craigslist user, who remembered my lost-bike posting and had already contacted the seller, sent me a photo that confirmed it was my bike. I jumped into a zipcar to get myself across the Bay and organized a sting with the Alameda Police Department. The bicycle is now in my possession, 14 months minus one day since it was stolen. Alameda PD took some time to get rolling, but they were diligent and courteous.
As always, the Riv folks demonstrated top-notch customer service. The serial number I had on record differed from the one on the frame by one digit (a recording error on my part), and they stood ready to help prove my ownership. (In the end it wasn't necessary, because there was sufficient other evidence.)

Well, this is not the day I expected when I got out of bed this morning!

Ha!  Holy crap what a great thing for anybody to get their stolen bike returned to them.  Woot!

AWESOME.  There is nothing better than a stolen bike being returned to it's rightful owner.  Solid stuff.

That's great!  I've heard a few stories in recent months of people recovering stolen bikes, often aided by local Bay Area PD's.  Glad to see that it's at least becoming possible.

Woot!    Amazing!   Very glad you have it back!   Sorry for the lost 14-months of rides, but, double up to make for lost time!  :)

Congrats!!

Max, very glad to hear you got your bike back. Christmas came early this year!

Michael, the CL ad was taken down it appears, unsurprisingly. Glad the PD did its work. Don't steal bikes!

While it is said the noblest vengeance is to forgive, I hope Max got at least one good poke at the slimeball who stole his bike. :)
This story made my day!!

He doesn't need to.  That theft is going to cost the guy at least $10,000, if not $20,000

I doubt that. He's probably selling stolen goods because he is not employed, skilled, or otherwise an income earner. That $10K + will be paid by taxpayers for his Public Defender, probation officer, and the mostly needless paperwork that will follow his slap-on-the-hands sentence. At least the bike has been returned.

C'mon now! Wild speculation is fun, but none of us know the whole story about the CL seller, what evidence is against him, his motives, his employment situation, his probable court/incarceration costs (if any), etc. I fear that this is the kind of talk that devolves quickly into a battle of inane political ideology, and broad generalizations, insulting stereotypes, coded innuendo, etc. Personally, I've gotten my fill of that stuff recently.

Aside from all that, what a GREAT story!

YES !!!

Someone got their bike back ... GREAT !   This is what matters most to me.

For reference I did have a bike stolen once ... and someone "caught".  Did I feel an ounce of vengeance or punishment towards the person ?  No .  What good does it do me to harbor such feelings of MY heart and mind ?  It only hurts ME.  Easier said than done ?  Not really ..... it's as easy or difficult as you choose it to be.  I could just as easily say it's easy to get up in the feeling of being "done wrong" by someone .... easy to want revenge.... easy to want them to "pay" and be punished .  Or is it ?  Your feelings within yourself always reveal that punishment of another hurts yourself more .  Who really wants to hurt anymore ?   Each to ask ourselves..... or not ...
