Cute.  I keep thinking of a reason to set up a mixte for myself.  This might be the final straw.  I can't wait to see them.

Not much to go on there, but...

Why two frame pumps?!?

"Why two frame pumps?!?"

To create more threads on the utility of two top tubes, of course!

One for the front and one for the back, Rex. Everyone does that,
right?

Ok, here's my guess (disclaimer: I have not been to Walnut Creek..have not seen the bars): It's an Albatross with a road-bar-ish flat section, and a Moustache Bar-ish forward curve. The wider flat section before the curve starts provides the wider stem-to-end dimension; the deeper curve provides the long front-to-back dimension, plus gives that back-flat aero position M-Bars are known for. Whaddyathink?

My guess is it's Rivs take on the FuBar (http://www.misfitpsycles.com/
handlebars.html) which, to my mind, is awesomeness. In silver, 25.4
clamp... On my MB-2, this is gonna be so sweet.

Dustin's seen the bars, but knows if he divulges anything, he's in for
it, and "it" is not pleasant. TapeBubba.....MAY have seen them. May
NOT have noticed them. We still have that thing going, where, if
somebody posts a clear photo, then we raise the price on everybody's
handlebars by $20, and blame the photoposter. They are neat bars.
Jay's favorite of all time, I think. He likes them a lot, at least.
It's not fair to the bar for me to puff it up so much, because once
you do that, people---some people---have a tendency to pounce on it
when it arrives for good. It won't turn everybody on, but it is a
pretty neat bar. Mr. Y from Nitto did a good job interpreting the
requests, and he was here not long ago riding my bike. Elderly
Japanese guy riding a bike too big for him, through his leg over and
took off like he was born on the bike. He came back liking it, and he
gets it. There's an optional twist that makes it even better, but it's
a twist that will likely only appeal to Splat-fans. At least, if you
hate Splats, you're too uptight for this other thing. Even then,
though, you'll still be tempted.
Bubba: Look around some next time you're here.

I'm TapeBubba and I didn't note the new bars last time I was in.  My cute comment above is based on Grant's description, not any first hand observations.  I also know that I'm on Grant's 'persons's of interest' list for usual suspects to leak info.  "Where's your camera?" they ask me when I show up.  I never meant to be a spoiler.  Perhaps I subconsciously went out of my way NOT to notice anything, so I wouldn't be tempted, even.

It's a bicycle - everything in pairs, right?

The blurring of the bars got me - I kept waiting for something else to
load!

I don't see how your comment could qualify as a "spoiler". I actually attempted a guess based on G's description. All you said was you'd like one on a mixte.

As I looked at the Blug post today my thoughts turned to -

"number seven, Rivendell naughty bits." (said in a mild British
accent, of course)

Am hoping the bars are nice. Might buy a pair for my convertible
single speed.

it sounds a bit like the Lauterwasser bar,

but flipped right side up, and a little more in the middle

My wife has Albatross bars on her X-0, and I like 'em, but I've also
wished for more grab-able areas, that I could wrap with tape and use
to vary my hand positions. Reading through Grant's description, it
sounds like the new bars are going to offer that, Cool.

or this:

Grant's description is perfect for either one, right?

On a couple of occasions, I've gone into Riv HQ with my camera.  Usually when I've been picking up a frame, so I could photograph the process.  I'd take pictures of whatever caught my eye, and I think I ended up capturing and making public stuff that they had preferred had kept secret.  Either that, or I built a rep for photography at Riv HQ, and they now are saying "better put that away, Bubba might come in"

I'm really curious to see this bar. I anticipated that it would be
some kind of multi position bar that takes mtn bike brake levers.
Maybe I missed it the blug post but I'm curious if they're off-
roadable. I recently swapped out the Albatross bars on my Cross Check
commuter for a Surly Open Bar and really like it. It's similar to the
Albatross bar but different. It's nice that there are so many options
for bars now.

I agree, any new bar is a welcomed bar in my opinion.  If this bar is like a mustache bar but with an extra hand position or two that takes mountain levers I am sold.

I think I remember something like that happening with the BarSack.
You and somebody else used to post pics of the big, packing/cutting
table workbench they have. Then guys like me would notice everything
but what was in the center of the pic. It has to be kind of hard
having secrets in an open shop like that. On the plus side I think it
is a strong quality that the Riv team actually rides the stuff, hard,
before cutting it loose on us the consumer.

I love the idea of alternative bars and having variety...however...

I must have missed the reasoning for keeping them hush hush while offering hints, but making mention of not mentioning them at the risk of financial penalty to the customers they're being marketed to. If they are as odd but cool if you give them a chance as splats, then there would seem to be little worry that the design would be stolen and knocked off before finalized. In fact I would think the opposite. Rivendell products are the type that seemingly are not appreciated by the non-Rivendell knowledgeable till much later. They pioneer and keep alive the products no one else will support. Friction/barend/DT shifters. Silver (colored and named) componentry. Lugged steel. Etc...

Maybe the mention of designing anything new opens a flood gate of unsolicited suggestions? Perhaps "spy photos" would wrench that gate open even further and that is what's being avoided?

I trust in the designs that Grant and Co. come up with because they do what they say they will. Got a new bar coming out? Sweet...I'll bet it rocks for it's application 'specially being made by Nitto. But until it's done and done it's of no concern to me. Need to charge $20 more for it to be good for the business? Cool, that's reality, but hopefully not some excited customers cross to bear. All I know is there are moustache, noodle, and albatross bars on the bikes in my garage.

One more reason for changing the name of the new bar: there's already
something out there called "Back-Up Barz". And I'd really hate to get
the two confused.

Ugh... that second link is scary.  I have a mental picture of being in the drops, stopping fast, getting pitched forward, and getting stuck, neck firmly trapped between the bars. :-)
