Pics and a quick description over on Google Plus:

I don't think you need to have a google plus account or anything to see the post, but let me know if you do.

Some notable things -

1.  Forgot a lighter.  Meant no cooking dinner or breakfast, or coffee.  So that was a bummer.  I always bring too much food though, so I just had some sopressata, an apple, some almonds, and some berries for dinner, and some chocolate for dessert.  Wasn't that big of a deal.

2.  I ate a bug.  Was just after a big climb, I was gassed, had my mouth open while I was cruising and BAM.  Big bug down the gullet.

3.  Saw a bunch of monarch butterflies.  A highlight of the ride was when one cruised alongside me for like 8 seconds.  Felt like racing the butterfly.  Good stuff.

4.  Stopped at a cool little cafe in charlotte vt for breakfast/coffee - Old Brick House (for those of you that know the area).  Ran into a couple of friends who were out with their racer buddies for a ride.  Everyone was checking out the Sam, and had nothing but nice things to say.  "Is that English?  Custom?  Where you coming from?  Where you going?  What's up with the second top tube? What a beautiful bike."  Etc.

5.  I saw a bald eagle when i was eating my morning berries and larabar.  I haven't ever seen one before, it was awesome.

Beautiful photos -- all that green stuff!

Actually, the river view photo doesn't look too different from the
view from the Rio Grande's west bank 1/4 mile from my house; the
problem with camping (for me) is that, (1) it is explicitly illegal to
camp in the bosque (the trail signs read: "Fire Danger: HIGH TODAY!!")
and (2) the ground cover: ours is sand with sparsely scattered
sagebrush, thistles and other, hardy, desert weeds, even under the
cottonwoods. I suppose a hammock would work, but again, the coppers
.... And, we have coyotes. (That is a three-syllable word, please,
accent on the second.)

I enjoy the S24 and other camping photos -- keep 'em coming.

Forgot to add that, with those two tts, I see room for, what, six
bottle cages on your frame?

Thanks for sharing Zack. I looked it up in my (personal) encyclopedia: under 'Epic Ride' were subcategories of eating bugs nuts and berries, racing butterflies, and communing with eagles! The dinner sounds like something Gary Taubes would approve of, assuming the chocolate was 90% cacao.

Looks like a great way to spend a birthday. I used to go on solo adventures all the time but as I've gotten older and became a stay-home dad (less contact with adults) I find the solo adventure less appealing. It's sort of confining 'cause I feel like I have to find a friend to go with me... 'cant just pack up and go last minute... even though I actually could.

Anyway, congrats on the eagle, beautiful bike, and great pics.

BTW... if you ever wanna see another bald eagle, visit Seattle. You can see bald eagles nearly every day if you know where to go (Magnolia bluffs are a good place to start).
