but today's Bike Snob was really quite good.  It wasn't top-notch comedy, but I challenge anybody to link me to a better blog post today, especially a cycling related one.  Perhaps I don't read enough blogs, but I don't have a ton of time to do so.  I think ____ _____ is smart, thinks hard about what he writes, and writes creatively enough to make his repetitions entertaining even though they are repetitive.   Most of all he cares about what he does and cares about cycling and cyclists.

He is starting to sound like a crotchety old man; and he's only 37 or so? I like him but I was surprised by the vehemence of his statements -- which I agree with, btw.

Can he be fundamentally serious under the surface of low comedy?

Moving on: there are several interesting bike blogs by women; Lovely Bicycle is the best known but there are others worth reading (must find the urls) even if you discount those aimed at purely women's interests as clothing and so forth. I find the difference in perspective refreshing -- far, far less interest in kit and the minutiae of technology.

As much as like Grant, he can too sound like a crotchety old man....it's probably the crowd they're writing too.

I don't agree with the comparison. BSNYC has a bitter, cynical edge that is absent from Grant's writings. BSNYC has the unpleasant tone I see in the comment sections of many political blogs. Not fun.

Not comparing content just that they both sound like crotchety old men:)

No disrespect intended to William who pointed out BikeSnob's latest (it is a kick-butt blog entry - thanks William!), but I'd like to recommend that we not use this list to discuss BikeSnob unless there is some significant Rivendell product connection in an entry. Otherwise, bringing up BikeSnob (whose book I really enjoy by the way) is likely to lead to a large volume of off-topic (yet civil) arguments on this list, AKA too much noise.

Sorry BSNYC rubs you the wrong way, Joe. The genre is satire (I think), and while the humor is not always high brow ("AYHSMB") it has rarely struck me as bitter, cynical, or unpleasant. Certainly Grant P is effusive in his praise of the BSNYC book: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/bo12.htm

PS: Speaking of the book, I am done with my copy (purchased from Rivendell). Anybody want it for $10 shipped?

You're right Jim.  I should know better.
