i ride a Bleriot (and a lugged steel Waterford).  Steve P is in Alexandria and rides only steel bikes.  Another friend lives in Arllington, has 10 bikes - one Rivendell, all steel.  And then there are others I know.  A number of the DC Randonneurs ride steel bikes, and there's a couple who live in DC who each have at least 2 Rivendells.  Check out the blog, Chasing Mailboxes.

Greetings.
I ride regularly in northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., and it
seems pretty clear that this is CF territory: almost nothing but high
end Specialized, Trek, and Cannondale bikes, with the occasional
Cervelo or Lightspeed thrown in for variety's sake. I sometimes run
into another Rivendeller, but the Riv/BOBs are few and far between.

I'm in Kensington, MD and have only seen one Riv, a Quickbeam on Beach Drive.  I got my Bleriot last year and so have just begun to be aware of Rivs on the road.   Admittedly, I've not gotten in a lot riding in the last year.  As for the CF factor and value of the bikes on the road:  I'm a car guy also.  It never ceases to amaze me the cars that I see on the roads around here:  Ferraris, Lambos, Teslas, etc.   I read about a car  in Road & Track one week and then I see one on the road the next Saturday or Sunday.   There's just a lot of money in this area and it is reflected in the vehicles and recreational equipment that people acquire.   Check out Katie's Coffee Shop in McLean most any Saturday for drool-inducing classics (cars).  Anyway, I digress.  Hope to see more Rivs on the roads and trails around here in 2012.  Cheers, Steve

Just checking in here, Orange Hillborne (with racks front and rear) or
a Green Quickbeam in Falls Church. You can recognize me by the
plethora of bike luggage i will most likely have on the bike.

Hi, I'm sometimes on an orange Saluki on Gravely Point and Mount Vernon trail by R. National Air Port.  I passed someone with a double top tube near there last month. Was that someone on this group? KP

Steve,
I am in Kensington, too. Though I do not ride a Rivendell (yet), I do commute with a large Saddlesack and other Rivendell gear! My commute takes me the length of Kensington Parkway before I head south into DC. If you see me riding (black Surly LHT, olive, large Saddlesack, yellow triangle reflector on rear fender, yellow jacket and helmet) please say hi!
I have passed someone riding a Romulus on occasion, too.
Best,
Erl

Ah, Kensington.  When I lasted visited, the highlight was a visit to Bert Heiserman's vintage pen shop.  What a place, if you love old pens.  But I drift way off topic...
