Somebody auctioned his NOS blue bullmooses.  He started the auction at a really low price, but it blew up at the end to $168.  More than retail.

I had my eye on them when they were in the $30 to $50 range.  Kind of surprising that they went that high.  I guess it only takes two bidders who REALLY want them for an auction to go up.

Sometimes I am taken aback at the high prices Rivish stuff is offered for.

Used items at or just below new prices. Or even more than what they went for the year the item was for sale new.

Well, that's the good thing about ebay. You can wind up getting a great sale and alot more than you expected to sell it for.

I find the forum to be much more reasonable, probably because the ebay premiums aren't factored in and because of the more human connection. That said, it's capitalism and if you want it bad enough you gotta pay!

I am sorry, I love bikes but feel they are not at all like cars in this matter, they do not really "appreciate" in value like say a Ferrari 250 GT California does. The rapid increase in technology, the cosumablity and realative low cost of bikes makes them depreciate pretty fast. While I have owned and do own a few "vintage" bikes I think people are delusional as to how much these older bikes are worth.

That particular bike is being sold by budget bicycle center in Madison, which is an amazing establishment. I have visited that store several times. It's actually four or five stores, all on the same street, the most interesting of which is an unheated warehouse of every bike you can imagine, all at RIDICULOUS prices. Ladies Raleigh Sports in decent shape? $500. Run of the mill 1970s Paramount? $2500. Schwinn Varsity? $600. If you show interest in any of the bikes, and look at it again tomorrow, the price will be significantly increased. My friend tried to deal on a tandem there, but the salesperson said it wasn't actually for sale - the price tag was for "insurance reasons". After several mystifying visits, I asked one of the employees about the business model. He said that his boss is in the "acquisition business" and confessed that he didn't understand it either, except as a possible tax dodge of some kind. They've been in business for a long time, so it must work for them, somehow. Anyhow, they post grossly overpriced items on eBay all the time.

It's an "Aero" Miyata with a dent so severe, that I'd never even consider the bike rideable.  Part out the vintage Dura Ace AX parts and you could recoup maybe $500 worth of the $2499 asking price.  It's been listed continuously for years.

I find selling stuff to be kind of hard. It's not the parting with stuff, it's just dealing with posting it, answering the emails and then getting it all packed. The reality is that my actual experience with selling things has been great. I posted a bunch of stuff here a while back and it all sold within like 24hrs or so. Everyone was great to deal with and getting the stuff out was pretty smooth. I underestimated shipping but ultimately I was looking to make space here at home and get items that should be in use out in the world. 

I think I've only purchased one thing from a group member, a Quickbeam frame a few years back and that went smoothly. I since sold that frame to a list member along with my old Rambouillet. The sales of both those big ticket items went smoothly and booth frames seem to have found good homes and put to use.

I consider this group to a be a community of sorts and like passing stuff along to folks here by people who seem to genuinely love Rivendell and Rivish parts. 

Next miserably rainy day here I'll most likely organize some more stuff for sale.

I bought my Bleriot online from a really nice guy either from here, the BOG, or a general cycling forum. I don't know which.

He was very helpful and patient to answer all my pre-purchase questions and even questions I had during assembly.

 

He was very kind, and although he was going to ask for more on ebay, he sold the bike to me for a very nice price.

Its nice to sell stuff here (or on the BoB list) because its easy.  But really its not that hard to sell on eBay.  I posted about 9 things last week and am in process of having about a $500 day from stuff in my garage.   I'm sure I could have listed and sold here, and I did post an auction link, but eBay lets the market drive the price up.  Due to the nature of an auction, I'm getting many times what I would have offered via an email here.

 

Example: $26 for a broken rear deraileur and $62 for some obsolete pedals
