I decided it was silly to have a commuter bike without fenders, so much as I loved the Bruce Gordon Rock ‘n’ Roads, they had to go.  Here are a few pics of Mystery Bike v. 2.0, with brown Schwalbe Delta Cruisers and Longboards.  Cleaned up the wiring for the lights, another coat of shellac on bars and kickstand and twine over taillight wire on LOOONG rack stay, and we’re ready to go.

Improv fender installation, required by long chainstays and no chainstay bridge bolt hole for fender:

That looks great! It makes me wonder what happened to the other
mystery bikes -- I don't think I've seen posts from any other owners.

Good

Gracious!

That is a gorgeous looking setup!

Looks stately and fast all at the same time.

Thanks!  “Stately and fast all at the same time” – a consummation devoutly to be wished.  I’ve only ridden this a couple of miles as now set up, but it’s definitely sweet.

GREAT looking bike! I'm surprised it doesn't have a fender mount on the bridge. Life of an early innovator :-)

So can't fit R&R + fenders? Could you fit 50mm Big Apples?

I'm confused as to what had to go? Are you saying that a Bruce Gordon Rock n' Roads can't fit fenders and that you had to  sell it to get your mystery bike?

I agree that in most cases, a commuter should have fenders. I'm lucky to have more than one bike and put fenders, albeit cheapy plastic Crud fenders, on one of my bikes to use when its wet outside. Otherwise, one lucky thing about living in my area is there are months when it doesn't rain and fenders are optional. Good Luck!

B:

No, I was referring to the Bruce G Rock ‘n’ Road tires that were formerly on the Mystery Bike (not to a BG Rock ‘n’ Road <bike>).  I loved them, but couldn’t make fenders work with them on that bike (at least not without substantial fiddling, and even then no guarantees), so I put the somewhat skinnier (around 36mm mounted) Delta Cruisers on the bike, along with Longboards.  Everything plays well together now, and the ride remains very cushy (“stately”, as Cyclofiend suggests), but still surprisingly zippy and responsive.

I might have been able to fit R + R plus fenders, but not Longboards, and wider fenders don’t play well with the Tektro R559 sidepulls that are on the bike.  I suspect you could get a fender wide enough to handle the R + R tires if you replaced the sidepulls with some Paul Racers, and I actually gave it some thought, but it would have required some additional work, and no guarantee it would pan out, and anyway I like the way the brown Delta Cruisers look with the Longboards, so I think I’ll try this combination out for a while and see how it goes.  If it turns out I really miss more air under my wings (speaking metaphorically), maybe I’ll try the R + Rs (or some Duremes or Supremes – maybe some Marvellettes?) under a set of Racers and some wider Honjos.

What Pudge meant was that he had been running Bruce Gordon Rock n' Road tires on his Mystery bike.  But, the Mystery bike didn't have the clearances to run those tires with the fenders he wanted, so he did the tire swap to enable the fender install
