I have decided to sell my Rivendell Bombadil.  This is the original model with parallel top tubes in the 60cm size.  It is fully built with premium components:

  • Shimano 9 speed barcons
  • Shamano XT rear derailleur, rapid rise
  • IRD front derailleur, triple
  • Sugino XD triple crankset with 170mm arms
  • Nitto Technomic Stem
  • Nitto Noodle Bar, yellow cloth bar tape tied with hemp twine and shellacked with amber dewaxed shellac (by me)
  • Velo Orange hammered fenders
  • Phil Wood front and rear hubs laced 3-cross to 40 spoke Velocity Dyad rims.  Silver Salsa quick release skewers.  Super sturdy for touring or larger riders!
  • Tubus racks, front and rear
  • Tektro CR720 cantilever brakes
  • Tektro brake levers with quick release buttons and black rubber hoods
  • Phil Wood Bottom Bracket
  • Schwalbe Marathon Extreme 35mm tires
I am asking $3,000K for the bike packed and delivered in the lower 48 states, I would prefer payment by some means other than paypal and can give you lots of references for both bike and camera sales.  I am open to reasonable offers and promise not to be offended if you promise in return not to be offended if I decline.

There are no issues at all with this bike, everything works perfectly - the chain is getting old and could stand to be replaced but that's about it.  Very clean, no crashes - maybe a few smudges of dirt in the pictures, fenders have a few small dings in them from normal wear and tear.  Never crashed or traumatized - this is a great bicycle!  I am the original owner and bought it from Rivendell myself.

That's the price of the new frame alone at Rivendell - you are basically getting a high-quality build for free in this deal.  You can see pictures of the actual bike and build here:

That's a great looking Bombadil!  $3,000K is three million dollars.  I imagine that $3K is your actual price.  ;)

sarcastically yours

What is the standover on the frame and what year did you buy it. I have been thinking about ordering an atlantis frame at only 2000 but this camping bike is new to me. They don't seem to sell it on the web site.

Hi,
Do you know if the geometry of this Bombadil is the same as the current frames on their website?  Also, could you tell me your PBH and height please?  Thanks

With a PBH of 92 you could definitely ride a 60cm Bombadil.     It is probably ideal for people with pbh of 89-94 but don't quote me on that... there's info on the Rivendell website outlining the ideal PBH range for each size.

.... and here it is (cut and paste)

48cm (for 650B wheels) For PBH of about 77 to 83cm; Saddle height 67 to 73.
52cm (for 650B wheels) For PBH of about 81 to 87cm; Saddle height 71 to 77.
56cm (for 650B wheels) For PBH of about 84 to 91cm; Saddle height 74 to 81.
60cm (for 700c wheels) For PBH of about 87 to 95cm; Saddle height 77 to 86..
64cm (for 700c wheels) For PBH of about 93 to 102cm; Saddle height 85 to 92.

Thanks for posting that Matt.

My PBH is 90.5 to 91 depending on what time of day I measure.  There's a lot of overlap in sizing as you can see from the list Matt posted, the slightly sloping TT makes these pretty adaptable bikes, fit-wise.
