New Year's Day ride up Mt Diablo

I thought I'd start a thread for this ride, which was mentioned in another thread. The plan is to meet at Pleasant Hill BART at 9:30 am: http://tinyurl.com/bvt86we

It looks like the trails will be able to dry out a bit before then. There should be enough locals on this ride to take different routes to the top and back again.

yeah, i'll help you find it... I want to head down the frog pond /
curry canyon roads afterward, then climb back up to the southgate rd.
it's been dry a few days so it might just work out. shell ridge was an
impassable mess a couple days ago (crown-clogging, get-a-stick mud).

Lime Ridge was quite rideable yesterday, with a few muddy spots. After
another day of sun today, trail conditions should be perfect tomorrow.
Currently 47F in Walnut Creek and 34F up on Diablo, so you may want to
bring a jacket and gloves for the ride down.

Though I think that arrival times for trains are like 9:17, 9:37, 9:57
tomorrow morning, in which case for those taking Bart 9:40 might make
more sense.

Nah serious though, your google map route is ok but am not so sure on
taking Burma Rd up. Unless people feel more like hiking than riding
;-) but it seems like we're gonna be a mob, so I'm sure
splinter/self-flaggelating groups can be arranged ad hoc.

It will be fun (no doubt), dry (hope) and cold (for sure!)... I'm
nursing along a cold but this should be just what the doctor ordered.

I'll be at BART to meet the 9:40 train. If you get there early and
need coffee, there's a Starbucks about a block away at Jones & Treat.
And if you're not familiar with Diablo, bring food; there's nothing to
buy on the mountain.

Does not look like I will be able to do it. Went out this afternoon and there is no way the ankle is ready for a run up Diablo. Too bad - Manny's proposed route goes right through where I grew up and was riding old Schwinn bikes down trails at high speed in the '70's. 

Maybe next year. Seems like a good annual event.

Happy New Year.  Boy am I jealous... Jim T, you are a TROOPER!! 

The weather here in Central NJ today, while not quite awful, is certainly below par... Temps above freezing, so no firm snow-ride on the trails (which is what usually makes NJ tolerable in the winter)... And yet there's enough slop and ice on the roads to make it a bit treacherous for roadin... that's why they invented fenders and fat tires.  I just wish I had enough enthused riders to join me on my ride today like you all... Doesn't matter... I'm on my Riv, the Fiscal Cliff has been averted (so far), and lots of great things to look forward to in 2013.

Right now it's foggy but I have a feeling it's going to burn off and we'll have a sunny cold day here. I've been sick for the past couple of days but there's no way I'm letting that stop me from riding today.
