After experiencing that rim failure last Sunday, I switched out the
wheels on my Gomez with some relatively new Salsa wheels I had on
another bike. I have ordered a new set of wheels from Rich Lesnik, but
these will do until those arrive. After work this afternoon, I rode
the usual loop back into the Headlands. I took a few pix, too:

those look like stem mounted shifters? what bracket did you use to mount those?

Those are Paul thumbies, stacked one over the other. I got the idea from Rene on this list. I have two other bikes with old SunTour stem shifters. I like them for uprights.

That orange bottle is bright, eh? I just got one and put it on my plum Bstone XO-3. With the bike parked in my bedroom, it makes a great night light. ;-)

Yeah, after the top wears out, I can cut the bottle into strips and lace them through my spokes!

Nice photos. Makes me lust in my heart after a Yves Gomez. Have
always liked Rivendell's interpretation of the mixte.

Great looking bike. My wife's Betty is much too small for me but it's still fun to ride around with the kids. These pics confirm my previous notion that the "Quickbeam" crank with the 32 ring swapped out for a 24 or 26 is the prettiest crank with the perfect gear combo for any riding I want to do. Also, love the labels in the photos... a picture with words tells a thousand stories.

I believe they are Paul Thumbies.  Here is another example: http://www.biketinker.com/2011/projects/thumbies-as-stem-shifters/

Thank you. I like the wide range double a lot. Climbing up conzelman is no picnic, and the lows are suited well for it. Like all my bikes, I very seldom hit the high end of the ratios.

Yes, they are Paul thumbed stacked one over the other on the stem. I like the set up a lot for upright riding.

Very nice setup Ray. I'm glad you're all right. I'll see if I get a chance to replicate your ride in the next couple of weeks now that I'm finally home after a very heavy traveling quarter where I was barely able to ride.
