Under the guise of scouting a good route to Champoeg (pronounced "shampoo-ee") State Park for a family bike camping trip this summer I spent Memorial weekend Saturday on my Hilsen riding the roads and MUPS of Clackamas County.

OT... there are also some boaty pics at the link from other weekend adventures. Perhaps not as controversial as discussion about trail or 2tt but definitely non-riv specific... although I'll bet Grant appreciates a paddle in a canoe with tin-foil dinners on a beach or the lines of a nice homemade wooden boat that's almost ready to sail.

Looks like a nice outing!  Is that a home-brew kid carrier on the rear rack? Looks like foot pegs and a little place to sit.

Cheers!

PS: boat pics are always a nice addition--I'll be posting some after I finish building the wooden trailer for bicyle-hauling my boat.

Boat by bike is the way to go! I even did a bike-boat commute last
year. Need to do another soon. Look forward to seeing your trailer,
Lyle.

Lyle, Yes... home made kid seat made with scrap wood and a threadless mtn bike stem/bar from a used bin.

Joe, It's on my list to devise a way to carry my boat by bike. I've seen set-ups for sale on the internet but they're either pricey or look flimsy. I think I could make something that splits the difference... just a matter of the project making it to the top of my list. I've been thinking it would be nice to get a folding bike so I can ride one way and paddle the other without having to go retrieve my locked up bike.

Andy, I don't get to your pics, just a pop up from google asking me to create a picassa account.  BTW, we do most of out S240s in an expedition canoe, paddeling into Vermont's semi wilderness.  It's the way to go if you ant to carry a cooler and camp chairs!

No pics to prove it, but I was out on a local lake with my wife and three-year-old Grandson on Monday, (we have a Wenonah Kevlar Spirit II) and came across an adult threesome in another canoe - one using a kayak paddle, and two of them wearing very-aero bike helmets! Weirdest thing I think I've ever seen while canoeing.
